Bombs, Bullets and Boys
T is just an ordinary girl... well not exactly, but things start to change when she 'meets' David.
"Mum, gone out to walk the dog I'll be back in half an hour, Love T"
I scribbled down the note quickly and pinned it to the fridge door with a magnet. I pulled on my thickest hoodie and threw on a pair of woolly socks and gloves. Heaving into a pair of brown boots I was good to go. I picked up the door keys and was just about to leave when I realized when you walk a dog, it was easier if you actually had a dog with you. I walked back over to the fridge and scribbled out 'the dog' part. That's going to make mum laugh I thought, our blue eyed, snow white husky was still at the vets and was staying there for another two weeks.
You see when you have a dog that big, they need a walk at least once a day. If they didn't get that which our boy Eric happened to endure because my training ran late that one day they decide to eat... and I mean eat. When I did make it home that night, our Christmas tree was shredded and odd bits of baubles, tinsel and fairy lights were scattered around the living room with the occasional pile of sick. If I'm honest I would completely understand if you didn't prefer the life where you love your dog and would clean up his mess and even its sick that's why as soon as I got in I walked straight to my room and left the surprise for mum to deal with. So Eric's at the vets having various Christmas decorations removed from his stomach while I started to walk to park without my canine companion.
I decided to take the long way around the park trying to clear my head a little. A painful hum of a headache was boring behind my temples, making the cold air that blew in my face seem like ice shards poking and prodding at my brain. I carried on trudging through the snow, most of it untouched expect for a patch towards the middle of the park, that was covered in a swirling pattern of tiny bird prints that indented the snow. I smiled slyly to myself, the prints showed that it was probably more than one bird (black birds according to the size of the prints, probably fighting over a worm) since the winter had started I had since seen more and more birds attacking each other, it was more likely down the scarce food supply than a huge additional dose in the birds testosterone.
I continued to walk through the blanket of pure white that lay on the usually muddy playing fields when it started to snow. The sky was filled with masses of tiny snowflakes falling faster with each step I took. Ok, I thought let's go through this one more time. Snow clouds are formed when evaporation taken place after precipitation has happened. The evaporated water (H2O) then condenses to make clouds. The more water the more rain after evaporation and condensation. The rain cloud will move along with the wind until it has reached the point were no more water taken can be absorbed, if the temperature is below 0 degrees then snow, sleet or hail will form.
I smiled again this time it was bigger, almost a grin shoving my hands in my pockets I continued to walk down the snow path until it I reached an icy road and a zebra crossing. So 5 years of private tutoring was finally paying off. I crossed the road; a new smile spread across my face again and this one was a big, big grin. My tutor was amazing! He had 20 years of hard work, brilliant advantage and pure genius behind him. I had three tutors before Mr B came along, but he wasn't like my other tutors they were boring and tedious and were plain old textbook teachers. But Mr B was completely different to them, he told me about everything that could be learned, the way nature can change to a new climate and adapt to a new species or the way gravity keeps us from being sucked into the vacuum of dark space but a simple and purely ingenious thing like the ground could stop us from falling into complete magma and fire that is the earth's core. Mr B had been teaching me for three years now and not a moment goes by that isn't used for studying learning about the impossible or discovering the uncannily obvious.
I walked into the local corner shop as I made my way back from the park, my headache hadn't cleared, I'd ruled out circulation and tiredness so I had to be dehydrated. The corner shop wasn't big so it didn't take me every long to pick up a bottle of diet coke and pay for it. I stepped outside and took a long drink of the coke, I wasn't practically thirsty but I still felt my body appreciated it. I glanced at my watch and bit down on my bottom lip. Opps... My walk had been a little longer than I thought. I should have been home fifteen minutes ago, I started to speed walk down the road praying that mum was stuck in traffic or had a sudden urge to go food shopping.
I turned the corner that lead down to my street when a dark figure stepped in front of me. He was obviously male, broad shouldered, sharp defined face, tanned skin with one green eye and one gray. I would have said he was no more than 16 years old. I was going to walk around him when he made a grab for my jacket collar. I could feel the muscles in my body tense, the stranger pulled me with his right hand, throwing me in the air (Note to self right-handed) so I jumped. With the force of mine and the strangers action combined I flipped over the boys making sure the spin I used made him lose grip, landing on the balls of my feet. I lashed out a kick to the boy's face, but the boy ducked grapping my leg and pulling. I lost my balance as the full strength of the strangers was finally revealed. The boy let go of my left leg just before I was about to hit the pavement, he was fast I admitted but I was faster. I through my hands above my head and pushed up against the pavement, back flipping to my feet. As I came up I kicked the surprised attacker in the 'delicates', he bent down, doubling over in pain, I hit him square in the face with an upper cut to the nose. He looked up slightly dazed by the force of my punch; I grabbed his right arm and pulled it around his back twisting his arm to the small of back.
I kicked him from his feet and looked around, no one was near and no one was watching. Good I thought, might make this easier. I pulled on his messy brown hair and brought his still dazed face to look at me. If he hadn't been attacking me, I probably would have liked to be friends with the lad. His face portrayed innocence but I for one new that was just a cover. I sighed, why was it all the good ones were attacking 14 year olds on the street, oh well I dismissed as I punched him hard in the side of his temple. His body went limp as I dragged the unconscious boy towards my house.
I climbed the fence of my garden wall and pulled the boy after me; as soon as he was slumped against the brick of my house I dialed Mr B's number. Like I was saying earlier Mr B was no ordinary teacher. He was the opposite and over the past three years he had been teaching me Science, English and Maths he had been assigned to train me to be an assassin. Yes I know... It's AMAZING! But those are the breaks, and it wasn't like I going to go hay wall and start working for mob gangster or anything. No, I was training to be a MI5 assassin so as soon as I hit 18 I was going to be one of Britain's deadliest weapons.
I frowned when Mr B's voice mail came on, I hated this part and doing it on my own was exactly going to be fun. But before I could do anything I had to get my mum out the house, none of the lights in the house were on so I assumed that she had decided to go shopping, I rang her mobile and explained that I was going to be with Mr B on a camping thing for the night and that she could go to her sisters for a girly night or something. She agreed gratefully and told me she had been so stressed that one of aunty Florence's spa nights sounded fun. I wished her fun then put my phone away and looked down to my unconscious attacker. With another resigned sigh I pulled him through the door and began to shut the blinds and lock all the doors.
Ten minutes later my guests heterochromic eyes fluttered open, I'm glad I hit him pretty hard because while I waited for him to wake up I had taken DNA samples and body searched him for clues on who he was. David Gift, 16 years old, parents divorced mother remarried, no dental fillings, no facial or bodily piercings and no current school. He shook of the dizziness I suspected he had received from my blow and struggled against the bonds that were tying him to the chair. I shook my head at him and he immediately stopped but instead of an expression of fear or even a poker face would have been expectable he just smiled at me in a sort of cocky manner. I rose an eyebrow at him "I don't see why you should be smiling?" He didn't even hesitate to answer "Well it's just that you're the smallest person to ever take me down... I'm only laughing at myself because I'm trying not to think about how much damage you may have caused to my ego."
I sighed, I had to admit that growth spurt I had been promised was a little behind schedule and the fact that my size only seemed to magnify my ability to surprise people. I spoke 18 different languages, I was a black belt in any martial art you could name and a few you couldn't, I have an IQ of 121 and could kill a man in just as many different ways, When they pick me to be Britain's deadliest assassin it wasn't a coincidence I was chosen. David was still smiling and it was starting to bug me, I kicked towards his face and missed his mouth by millimeters, his smile completely gone now he began to understand this was not a game. "Any more smiling and I'll knock out your front teeth." I said casually trying to layer the threat, he nodded slowly but his eyes seemed bright, playful.
I leaned against the table and began to ask my questions. "Why did you attack me? Did someone send you?" My eyes were tight now as glared down at the boy, his were wide and innocent. "I didn't attack you! I don't know what you mean!" I pursed my lips "Ok let me rephrase, why did you try to grab me?" he nodded in almost a sarcastic way "Oh! That, well if I told you I would probably have to kill you - he looked me up and down - And that would be a shame, Besides I wasn't the one trying to stop me from ever having children." That made me blush, but even though might have I resembled a cherry, I refused to let him win this contest "So have you not met many girls that could kick your butt and integrate you all in less than an hour?" I knew that the question was stupid but I had to lead him on somehow the way he had fought and the way he refused crack indicated training, assassin training.
"Well, no not really... but your one in a million, aren't you T?" My eyebrows shot up, He was Mr B's other student. It was so obvious now, he had always talked about another training session he had to go to but never told me about his other student, that's why he hadn't picked up the phone when I rang, that was because training was canceled and he had sent another assassin to grab me. This was all a test. I kept my poker face, trying to give nothing away to my component, I leaned away from the table and grabbed a fist full of his hair and pulled it. His back muscles tightened but he didn't cry out, I lowered my face close to his and whispered in his ear "Next time I suggest that you go for a less obvious way of trying to take down a girl because Mr B isn't going to bail you out of prison if you get caught." His jaw dropped as I let go of his hair and smiled "But how, how did you know?" His composure had dropped slightly, but he still held a sort of straight face. "I don't know David; it was just a lucky guess." I smiled even wider, and even David started to smile "So you got my name what else did you find out?" His cocky grin was back.
"Your David Gift, 16 years old and you live with your remarried mum, I've checked your files and you don't go to any of the schools in the county and with your knowledge and fighting skills I had assumed Mr B must have been teaching you for about a year... wait no two years, Am I right?" He nodded and his eyes sparkled "Well Mr B did say you were a keeper I just overlooked the threat, do you mind untying me I've got a killer headache." I rushed to behind the chair undoing the sailor knots I used to keep him there, "Sorry about punching you in the face, but you know when someone's attacking you..." I was babbling a bit and couldn't seem to make an end to the pointless sentence, so we sat in silences as I undid the ropes.
Sitting down later with a cup of tea each, I started to talk to the real David and not the attacker I had rendered unconscious. He was completely different to me except the obvious brain capacity. He was tall and strong and I was small and well not weak, just slight. He was confident and cocky whereas, I quite shy and awkward. And he was gorgeous and utterly perfect and I was dull and well... dull. Although I had been wrong, he had only been with Mr B six months, which completely surprised me because the way he had been fighting I would have thought he had been training much, much longer. "So how did Mr B find you?" He asked, I was just about to ask the same so I smiled slightly as I answered "Highest Science, Maths, English and P.E levels recorded."
I had always enjoyed school, I had also been top of the class, but I loved P.E so couldn't be named tag as a geek. "How about you?" He slowly put his cup on the table and held my gaze, I couldn't breathe. Earlier I hadn't seen his face probably, only long enough to capture a description for later, but now I could really appreciate how utterly heartbreaking and gorgeous his face was. He looked like someone had molded him from clay, all his features were perfect. His eyes were a big and round with long black eye lashes, his hair was a really dark brown messy, but tame as well. He had the highest cheekbones imaginable and his lips were the perfect shape I even started to imagine just leaning over and pressing mine to his... The attraction I had developed for him had become electric as it was unsettling "Same as you, but I doubt the highest recorded" His voice broke me away from my little daydream, I even blushed a little but I think he missed it as I tried to recover. "Oh, maybe they have a system for training kids with 'Gifts'? What do you think?" I don't think David was really listening because he had started to lean across the table and pressed his lips softly to mine starting were my daydream had left off.
