Bombers Target Israeli Diplomats in Eastern Europe, India

Bombings that occurred almost simultaneously in Georgia and India yesterday were the work of Iran, according to Israeli sources.
In an apparent ratcheting up of tensions between Israel and Iran, multiple Israeli diplomats were the targets of bombing attempts yesterday in Georgia and India. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quick to blame Iran and Hezbollah. In New Delhi, India, a diplomat’s car was rigged with a bomb, resulting in four people being wounded. The attack in Georgia was stopped before any casualties resulted. Noted Netanyahu, "Today we witnessed two attempts of terrorism against innocent civilians. Iran is behind these attacks and it is the largest terror exporter in the world."

No group claimed responsibility for the bombings, but Netanyahu did note that Israel had stopped attacks that were similar in nature in recent months, including in Azerbaijan and Thailand. He noted, "In all those cases, the elements behind these attacks were Iran and its protégé, Hezbollah. He added that Israel was determined to "act with a strong hand against international terror."

S.M. Krishna, the foreign minister of India, noted that his country would work closely with Israel to investigate the bombing there. He noted, "I have just spoken to the Israeli foreign minister. I assured him that the law of the land would take its course." Speaking of the unrest in Iran in general, Mike Herzog, a retired Israeli general, said, "There have been all kinds of mysterious things happening in Iran, and it could be an Iranian counterattack. It's no secret that Iran uses Hezbollah globally, and Hezbollah has the capacity to carry out attacks around the globe."
