Bobby Brown Denies Introducing Whitney Houston to Drugs

In an interview with Today's Matt Lauer, Bobby Brown emphatically denied introducing Whitney Houston to drugs.
NBC is set to air Matt Lauer's sit-down interview with Bobby Brown on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, and during their chat Brown is adamant that Whitney Houston was using drugs long before the pair got together. Lauer asked Brown specifically whether the "I Will Always Love You" singer was using drugs before she started dating Brown. He answered, "Way, way before. Yeah ... It's just, it's just unexplainable - how one could, you know, (say that I) got her addicted to drugs. I'm not the reason she's gone."

While Brown's assertion may well be accurate, it will probably make little difference to legions of Houston fans who will always believe that Bobby Brown's influence was a contributing factor in her death. Brown claims that he has been free of narcotics for seven years and he also denies knowing that Houston was still a regular user. Of course, such statements are all too consistent with an addict who has managed to temporarily mask his own drug use.

Brown and Houston have a daughter together and he briefly attended the singer's funeral in New Jersey. Brown left before the service actually began, saying that he felt unwanted and disrespected by member's of Houston's family and inner circle.

Ultimately, despite the sadness and anger that many feel about Whitney Houston's death, there is no one to blame besides Whitney Houston and the drugs themselves. There were certainly many people in Whitney's life who knew she had a serious problem and they probably tried to help in various ways. But until an addict makes their own choice to address their problems, very little can change.
