Blurred Eye Vision

Blurred eye vision can be described as one such eye problem, where due to absence of usual sharpness of vision, you fail to see the minute details of the objects around you. Like the sense of cloudiness in front of the eyes makes the things around you look dull, or you may find it difficult to identify the number of objects lying in front of you. This is a frustrating condition for anyone. Blurred eye vision can occur in both the eyes or it can affect just one eye also. People of any age group can get blurred eye vision.

What Causes Blurred Vision?

There are several causes that can lead to blurred eye vision. Some of the most commonly found causes of blurred eye vision has been discussed below:

Presbyopia: This eye problem is found in people above the age of 40. With the increase in age, our eye lens loses its flexibility and the focusing power of the eyes become weak. As a result, one gets blurred vision while reading a book or newspaper.

Short Sightedness or Myopia: This is a condition where a person can see the nearby objects clearly but distant vision becomes blurry. It happens when the visual light is focused before the retina. It mostly develops in people below the age of 20. This is detected when children complain that they are unable to see the chalkboard in the classroom. Sometimes, it can be hereditary.

Far Sightedness or Hypermetropia: In this condition, the vision of the near objects is blurred and distant objects are visible clearly. This happens when the light is focused behind the retina. Usually, this problem runs in the families and is present from birth but the symptoms may show up much later in life.

Astigmatism: This happens due to irregular shape of the cornea. As a result the reflected light is not properly focused on the retina. This results in blurred eye vision for both near objects as well as distant objects. Initially one may get blurred vision on objects that are placed at a distance only. Later, when it becomes severe then one can get constant blurred vision.

Macular Degeneration: This happens when the cells of macula or central part of the retina do not function normally. This leads to loss of central vision. This degeneration occur with aging and is found in people above the age of 60. Because of blurry vision, reading or recognizing people's face get affected.

Other Causes: Blurred eye vision is a symptom of other eye problems like dry eye condition or glaucoma. Cataracts tend to make the eye lenses cloudy which lead to blurred vision. Some medicines like cortisone, oral contraceptive or certain antidepressants and heart medications can give side effects of blurred vision. Those who have migraine may get sudden blurred vision. Sometimes, diabetic patients may suffer from diabetic retinopathy. This happens when the diabetic condition turns worse and which results in swelling and bleeding of the retina and cause blurred vision.

Treatment for Blurred Eye Vision

When blurred eye vision is related to harmless eye problems like myopia or hypermetropia, then they corrective glasses or contact lenses are given for vision correction. Treatment for blurred vision caused by cataract involves surgery. Dry eyes is treated by administering lubricating eye drops. If it is detected that blurred eye vision is caused as a side effect of any particular medicine, then it should be stopped immediately. If blurred eye vision is related to diabetes, then sugar level in the blood has to be kept under control.

As you can see, blurred eye vision is a serious issue, and therefore you should not neglect it and consult your doctor within a day or two. Strictly follow the eye care instructions given by your doctor to prevent any further damage to the eyes. Never try any self treatment with any kind of over-the-counter eye drops.
