Blood Over High-Heels - Chapters 1 and 2
I’ve lived in Alaska my whole life, but I’ve never gotten used to the snow. Truth be told, I hate snow just as much as I hate Monday mornings.
Chapter 1
I’m not starting this off with, "One day I woke up in the morning, sunshine streaming through my bedroom window, to the sound of birds chirping and the smell of bacon." Or anything like that. First of all, I always keep my curtains closed. Second, birds annoy me. And did it say the smell of BACON? My whole family, including me, are vegetarians.
"I gotta, I gotta, pocket full of sunshine. I gotta, I gotta, pocket full of sunshine… I know. Oh whoa oh…" I frantically felt for the snooze button on my alarm. With a groan, I got up to brush my teeth and freshen up for my first day of high school. My first day! This was going to great! Everybody would love me. I was so happy I almost forgot something dreadful; it was snowing outside… again! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve lived in Alaska my whole life, but I’ve never gotten used to the snow. Truth be told, I hate snow just as much as I hate Monday mornings.
So you’re probably wondering, "Then why live in one of the snowiest places on earth?" You see I have begged my parents to move, ever since I learned to say "I hate snow". In fact, my mom said when I was little; I wouldn’t play outside like all the other kids in the neighborhood. My father is a CEO of a major corporation. I forget which one; I never pay attention to the details. So if we move, he has to quit. Since we are filthy rich, that wouldn’t be such a good idea.
But remember, we’re rich, not selfish. Every year, we donate $2,000 to a random foster home. Then we get our picture in the newspaper, and so on. You get used to it after a while. My parents raised me up right. I have been homeschooled since Preschool. So when business was down, my mom had no choice but to look for a job. She got one as an accountant. And that meant that I had to go to school; public school.
My parents thought it was a bad idea when I suggested it, but I convinced them it would better than private school. I’ve watched enough TV shows and movies to know what high school is like. My best friend Juliet has gone to public school all her life. She’s like a sister to me. We met at the mall when I was eight. My mom was getting me a new coat, and I had found one I liked. Juliet and I grabbed it at the same time. She let me have it, because she’s so sweet. She still is now. My mother thought she wasn’t an appropriate accomplice, because she went to public school. Of course, she changed her mind after she met her. So when I told her my parents were looking for a good high school to put me in, she immediately recommended Blue Water High. My parents loved it. I liked it because Juliet went there.
So now we are going to be juniors together. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. She’s a great friend. I mean, she might not be rich, but she has a heart of gold. And that’s what makes her… well…her.

Chapter 2
"Mom. Mom! MOM!" I wailed. I couldn’t find my hair dryer and my tabulated mother knew where everything was.
"Coming! Calm down Grace. You left it in the downstairs bathroom." She explained.
Even though my mom and I argue a lot, I love her to death. "Don’t miss the bus sweetie, because I won’t be able to take you to school if you do. I’m already late to work as is." She noted.
My mom was a workaholic and she was the only person that kept me, my dad, and the house in perfect shape. "Thanks. Love You. Get out." I said as I gave her a quick kiss and lead her to the door. As soon as she left I got to work. I took a shower, and then put my golden locks into a French braid. "What to wear…What to wear…" I thought to myself.
After about three different outfits, I finally decided on a pink hoodie that said "Drama Queen" on the front (in black bold letters), BKE Sabrina Skinny Jeans, Black Coach Leonora Winter Boots, and my favorite charm bracelet with charms made out of real silver. I ran downstairs to get an energy bar, my backpack, and my blue Ralph Lauren coat. Finally, I dashed out the door.
To my surprise, there was only one girl at the bus stop. Uggggh, I thought, how am I supposed to make a lot of friends? I stood next to her, pretending she wasn’t there. Just as I expected she asked, "Hi. Are you new to Blue Water High?" The girl had brown hair that flowed down to her back, soft brown eyes, and rosy pink cheeks. Although her teeth were straight, she smiled with bright green braces. I figured she must be getting them taken off soon. She wore a gray coat and black jeans, with pink north face snow boots. "Yeah. How about you?" I answered. We exchanged safe conversation like that for a few minutes. A few minutes too long, you could say.
I started to think the bus would never come. But the future proved me wrong and a bright yellow school bus pulled forward with the words "Blue Water High School" written on the side. The doors screeched opened and the girl who went by the name of Wendy and I climbed onto the bus.
Juliet rode my bus and sat in the middle. She waved me over and I sat next to her. "Hey. So, what’s waiting for a bus feel like?" She joked. I laughed and said, "Normally I would be asleep at this time." She assured me today would be great and we started talking about which classes we signed up for. We realized we were taking most of the same classes, and just hoped we would be in the same periods.

We came to a stop at a big building. There was a huge parking lot that seemed to be about half full. The school was enormous and was still having construction done on the left side. How big is this place? I thought. There was no football field, or any field like you would imagine at any normal high school. (Not even a tennis court) Sitting in front of what I guessed was the stairs that lead into the building was a beautiful fountain.
The school was, overall, beautifully constructed. The only thing ruining it was the snow. The bus came to a stop and we all filed out. Juliet stopped to greet a few friends. The air was so cold I thought I was going to freeze to death. I told her I was going inside and started running towards the main doors. I wasn’t looking and, stupidly, slipped on a patch of ice. That’s when everything went black.
