Blood of the Skies and Shadows - Chapter Fifteen
Demetri holds off the demons while Lexi is taken to safety, but...will he really be safe himself? *IMPORTANT NOTICE: Blood of the Skies and Shadows might be split up into two books/stories, read my introduction for further information on this!
Hey everyone, yes I know it's been ages since my last post and as usual I'm super sorry but this time I have no excuses my internet and laptop are...cooperating for now. I've just been hit with writer's block again but worse, like pneumonia instead of a cold. Anyway I'm rambling, I still haven't exactly decided what to do on the whole love scene matter but there would still be quite a few chapters before there's even time for that unless...never mind, I'm keeping that thought to myself for now he..he.
IMPORTANT NOTICE part: Okay so I was looking at the 'list of submitted articles' page and I realized I already have fourteen (excluding this chapter) chapters posted for Blood of the Skies and Shadows. So I have considered splitting Blood of the Skies and Shadows into two stories, and that's what's most likely going to happen. So notice my introductions and any notes near the end of Blood of the Skies and Shadows on names for the third story of the Blood and Shadows series! :)
So here's chapter fifteen, Demetri style and following soon will be a more chapters on Lexi. Ian's disappeared somewhere because since he's stuck I haven't got a clue how I should continue his part, but something from him should pop up in some later chapters. Alright, comment and criticize, be my guest. But most of all enjoy, because without you guys, my fans, I definitely could not go on writing!
Lots of love, Caelia.

Demetri.
The demons were as horrible as Chris explained. And they were taking us, one by one. And our vampires were aiding them. We couldn't kill the others, knowing full and well they were a part of our group, we could only push them back and away from the door. Those demons had already broken through Carolina and Theo and the wolves didn't look as if they could hold much longer. I understood now what Lexi had meant when she said they were stronger than usual. They made our kind actually appear paler in contrast to our already pale skin. And their eyes, the ebony of it appear as the shadows of one's nightmares, cruel, blood thirsty and evil. One of those demons possessing a young vampire named Susanne attacked me. It was obvious this demon that had a hold of her was nowhere near as intelligent as the girl was. It went for the obvious kill. It launched itself at me, trying to wrap her arms around me to crush my bones. I didn't snarl like others not unless I couldn't control the raw animal instincts that would only rise when something or someone was trying to hurt Lexi.
I grabbed of her neck, lifted her off the ground, shot her in the shoulder, not that it would kill her just keep her away, and flung her away easily enough. She crashed back up against a tall white column around ten feet away. Before I had time to think another vampire, older, both appearance and actual age in years, than Susanne named Andre was lunging at me. Whoever had acquired control of him was more intelligent or at least skilled. He fainted lightly towards me, focusing on my sides, his hissing still loud over the sounds. Without looking I grabbed the demon that stood behind me, attempting to close in for its bite, by its scaly neck, broke its neck and threw the carcass towards the Andre's body. I leaped towards him stealthily since he was currently distracted by the demon's body evaporating and slowly dissolving into a puddle of black venom. He aimed his fist for my chest but missed when I tilted to the side. I grabbed both his wrists and flung him into the approaching demons and our kind who were being controlled by them. I felt it when Lexi left, I just knew. She was nowhere near this place which was what I wanted, what we all needed. Fighting off another demon in the body of another vampire I knew I yelled over the noise.
"We have to leave! Lexi's gone already!" I flicked my line of sight to the wolves and the human Lexi was friends with, Lucas. The boy wolf, Alec was panting heavily, several cuts covered his body and his hind left leg appeared to be severely injured because he kept his weight off it and looked like he was trying not to use it at all. The girl wolf's breathing was labored and long gashes of cuts scattered across her. The sand colored wolf seemed to be doing the best, I was certain it was from learning from Lucius. He looked worn and exhilarated but overall fine, no cuts, future bruising or breaks. My words finally kicked in several moments later, they all started retreating, throwing as many demons into the other ones advancing as they could in the process.
Another vampire lunged at me, more instinctively skilled than intelligent but better than an empty-minded demon. We both circled each other defending and attacking equally until he struck out at me again. It was more of an elaborate and fatal attack but it took more strength and speed which was rather a hard combination considering the demon's host was rather tall and bulky. I took that opportunity and fainted as I dodged his attack, the demon went for it. Just as he realized his mistake I leaped forward and pinned him to the ground, throwing most of my strength into it. He fell unconscious but I knew it wouldn't last a long period of time. By the time I turned around the boy wolf was no longer fighting, at least not physically. The wolf had been bitten by one of the vampires and a pool of black tendrils had begun to try to enter him and take control.
Before I could analyze anything else something knocked into me, though I was powerful enough not to fall, I stumbled and that was all it took. I lost my footing and was instantly pinned down by an endless number of demons. A small demon landed on top of my stomach, using her full weight and strength to cause me pain though it hardly worked. Her face obscured by a dark hood concealing her entire head. She pushed her arm down on my throat. I struggled against their abnormal strength but there were always certain limits for anyone, it was too much to battle their numbers and strength though it didn't stop me. The demon laughed, malevolent and amused. Her small child like fingers peeled the hood from her crown and I realized, I knew her. The demon I recognized hadn't been taken over by a demon at all, it was Ruby.
"You're a lucky son of a bitch, Demetri." She exclaimed hatred, seething from her doe-like crimson eyes. I said nothing in return, but stopped my struggle. It was well-known she had not liked me even when I first joined Helios and presently it was obvious she loathed me for all I did. She laughed mockingly at my sudden stop, most likely thinking I was afraid. She carried on with her attempt to taunt me.
"If it weren't for Isabeau's rules, I would have ripped your throat out by now, but I would not have killed you for death is too kind. Fortunately for you, she needs you unharmed and in perfect condition. But when she is done with you, I will have my way in avenging my master, Demetri." She cried hysterically. Her laughter was piercing to my ears but her words were not ones I feared. Whoever Isabeau was, I knew she must've been the one controlling everything and if she needed me, it wouldn't simply be to kill me, if that was the point then it didn't matter if I were harmed or not. Ruby snapped at an unintelligible demon I'd defended against to go to her. The host shadow body was the female wolf, Lily, except she was in her human form. Her demon black eyes looked at Ruby with disgust, disdain and completely evil hatred and but she knelt beside Ruby and I obligingly as if it had no other option. With a knife she sliced her wrist open, not deep enough to be fatal but enough to draw a lot of blood. But there was something strange about the blood and I didn't mean the wolves' usual blood that gave off an odor to repel vampires but it smelt wrong. Nothing any shadow's blood had ever smelt of. Its color was eccentric as well, it was darker than any blood and its texture seemed thicker and grime like rather than normal liquid did.
"It's not demon's blood to kill you but it should take you out for a little while. I hope this hurts for what your human toy has done to me." She finished gleefully and viciously as she aimed for my neck. I hissed back instinctively as she her fangs pierced my skin. No vampire ever bit another, though they did often drink from one another but that was only if they were bound to the other forever by love. Ruby's cruelty and evil made me repulsed by her. When she had pierced she rapidly grabbed the wolf girl by her arm and forced her wrist down to my neck, letting the demon's blood flow into me. The blood felt toxic to me. It gave me the sudden urge to scream in sheer rage and pain. But at the same time it was intoxicatingly powerful and welcoming, as if I were being saved from an abysmal loneliness. It felt right to my blood and every muscle in my body but to me, to my damned soul, if vampires actually had one, it felt utterly wrong.
It was as if I had been killing innocent ones all again but the feeling were intensified extremely. I avoided that feeling and grit my teeth, forcing myself away from the pain. I fought for a long time, using every ounce of strength I possessed but eventually the blood's resilience and overwhelming force had made me lose consciousness during the battle. The blood of the demon slowly shrouded my mind in a haze of seething darkness and blood-curdling power. I knew Lexi wouldn't fail to find any of us and knowing her I knew she would do it all as if she were an enraged warrior, rather than the petite, delicate girl she appeared to be. The thought would have brought a smile to my face but my numb body refused to comply.
