Blood Moon Journals - Chapter 2
The saga continues...
David stood directly underneath the surveillance light. His thoughts return to his present-day dilemma, the girl had an overabundance of undeveloped power. He could smell it in her blood that meant two things, one she was a human and two she must have some immortal lineage.
He reentered the bar and briskly crossed the floor. He perceived more people assembled around her; once more, he suffered spasms throughout his body. His voice cracked when he presented. Himself hello, "I'm David Threamine, can I help."
All Eyes turn toward him as he noted. Another individual on the floor opposite the barman most likely a friend, and she pressed a wet cloth to the girls' forehead. Without warning, a young male scooped up the girl eager to hurry her away. I'm taking Clare home. Everyone in the group, including the barman believed the girl should remain there until the medics arrived. Nevertheless, the young man rejected the idea. David was unsure of his own struggle to intercede on the girl's behalf. Suddenly, a valued employee proclaimed a fight had materialized upstairs so David went to assist thinking he had enough time to resolve both issues. After he returned, he discovered the girl and her friends were missing.
The fight
David walked in on Kenneth and Gale in a heated exchange. She acknowledged David. He returned the head bob and ebbed his way into his office... he loathed the idea of his close friend in a relationship with Gale. She had altered his human life long ago, and trouble always followed on her heels.
Kenneth assigned the remaining task to the members of the staff. He was considering an acceptable way to inform David of his date with Gale. He could explain they were just friends with benefits. The only problem Kent had was he was unsure how David would manage that kind of news. He watched as David exit the side of the building, turn the key in the lock and casual stroll out to the car. David was a classic enthusiast. He paid a great deal for The sleek 1963 black mustang. He left the car on the outer edge of the parking lot.
The two men pulled out into the gravel road around 4 am. The temperature has hardly made it above 30 degrees, Kenneth said he was thinking of turning the radio louder.
The small town of Itasca was quite, and it was crucial the community stay happy. Furthermore, the town committee influenced the decision on their business permit. However, the proposal of visitors heightened the small town's optimism. Kent determined to forgo the loud music. David sat in silence pondering the different theories of why he nearly lost his self-discipline with the girl at the bar. Kent interrupted David's train of thought.
"So how'd we fare this evening? Huh! oh! David muttered. It was alright." Kent laughed. It looks like an average business. David nodded in agreement and then thought about revealing his reaction to the girl. Both men looked at one another as they approached a truck twisted and crushed. Vapors were emitting out of the engine, the two-lane country road was littered with metal, the truck obviously came to a rest sideways on the pavement. David drew the car over to the edge of the highway.
Kenneth leapt out before the convertible had come to a standstill. Immediately, David recognized the scent, a mixture of gas and blood, he began to convulse and seized the wheel losing all his lines of reasoning the dangerous fragrance was the equivalent to the girl from the club. It must be her. He thought. What was she still doing out at this time in the morning? She and her friend left the club hours ago. Kent seized the door off the wrecked truck without a hint of difficulty. He groaned as he observed the teenager passed out on the driver's side. A piece of glass from the windshield had severed one of his arteries in his neck. Blood was all over the interior, it was difficult for him to establish if the blood was all from the driver he had to pull the driver free in order to retrieve the passenger. Within seconds, both individuals lay on the ground a good distance from the crash.
The passenger was female. A flow of blood oozed down the surface of her face. Kent pulled his shirt off, and placed it under her head. He glimpsed at the expression on his partner's face but understood there was no time for explanations. David was already staggering toward the lad to move him further out of sight, although he was unsure of why David felt that it was necessary. Kent shouted, "This girl needs help," David responded, "Yeah, I'll call."
He punched in 911 and gave them a brief description then announced the ambulance was en route Kent hoped the girl heard him, you hang in there baby helps on the way. David still felt a little unstable but thought he was getting use to the girls' aroma.
There was another pair of car lights coming up the road, so David hurried over to the trunk and rummage around inside and found some emergency flares and position them out in the two-lane highway. Another couple arrived. And offered their assistance meanwhile David knelt beside the lad on the ground. He heard the faintest heart thump and recognized the boy's life was near its end his legs were shattered. His ribs were broken, and his left lung was punctured David was convinced he was dying.
Suddenly, he heard a voice over his shoulder, 'please do whatever it takes to save him.' David turned to see who was behind him. There was no one he shook his head thinking it must be his imagination. Of course, vampires never experienced irrational mortal responses. Nonetheless for some unknown reason David reached out and jerked the lad up and ran with lighting speed into the darkness. He was certain, Kent would not mention the lad or himself, although he heard Kent grumbled under his breath damn. The teenager had a short supply of blood with very little time to spare.
David tilted the boys head sideways and bit into the boy's flesh soon as the blood streamed into his mouth, a surge of energy jolted him backwards, and he landed on one knee David raised his eyes back to the boy. The look on David's face held the question that came from his lips. What the hell was that? David rose and wiped the blood off his mouth with the sleeve of his new shirt dang. He just brought it.
After a few brief moments, he heard the ambulance pulled away, he waited until all the cars departed, The body was tossed into the backseat, and the two men sped toward home. David revealed to Kent the strange reaction he encountered when taking the boy's blood. They tried to come up with a reasonable explanation without much luck. They were back at the house within a few minutes. Everyone filtered in and out of the downstairs room asking questions. Kent simply explained David would give them all the facts after their guest was secure.
The room, was dark and lifeless a security light shined outside through the opening in the beige lacy curtains. David knew the total hours to transform could be as little as twenty-four hours or as much as three days, depending on one's personnel immune system. Vampire blood was a toxin that destroyed blood cells a very unpleasant way to die. David was mulling the entire events of the evening. When he heard Kent's voice over his shoulder, "You should have let him die. The counsel would not have been in favor of this decision." I know David added, but I felt compelled to, and I can't say why, something came over me.
Kent patted him on the back. You act as if I'm doomed. David replied. I know your task is going to be difficult, you are officially a father you have a bouncing teenage lad so congratulation's dad. "I guess you're right, well let's just hope this state of affairs turns out better than mine."
Jeremiah laugh quietly, I called the hospital they wouldn't give me much information on the girl, unless I'm family, fortunately my friend Cindy works there, said she's been placed in some kind of induced coma.
There's been some swelling on her brain, But there are signs of improvement. Which is totally unusual for just after a few hours, and he said he'll keep me updated? David exhaled, not that, it was necessary, but it felt good showing outward signs of emotion than he wondered when he encountered feeling stressed something was amiss.
"Hey Kent, broke the silence. When are you coming upstairs?" In a while David replied. "Well then, I will talk to the family, tell them about the new addition."
Before Kent climbed the stairs. He turned to David, "Don't worry about the girl if she survives, we will figure something out.. " David nodded in agreement as Kent proceeded up the old wooden steps. David heard a voice from around the corner. He quietly walked around a stone pillar, the boy was already sitting up. He tried to push him gentle back onto the bed. When the boys eyes fixed on him, his iris where red hot. He grabbed David's upper arms with his hands that were warm. Do you know what you have done? David truly hated to admit the fact that he was totally aware of what he had done.
But was rather stunned by the fact the young man seemed to be alert and able to identify with the abnormality of his condition. I saved your life and though it might not be fair.
It is better than dead. David noticed the young man smirk and swing his legs off the bed and said yeah well you have created a mess for the both of us, I'm afraid. David believed he understood the boy was in denial. As the boy continued, I'm guardian of the spirit world. You have drained my powers and now must assume responsibility of my task. David already felt regret for saving him apparently the young man was indisputably crazy.
