The apartment was dark, but I knew that blood had been spilled and innocent lives had been lost. Lucas flicked on a torch and I nearly threw up on site. Lycanthropes, beasts that resembled wolves but were slightly bigger than normal dogs and wolves, more than ten laid sprawled out dead on the ground. Their insides had been clawed out cruelly, their blood splattered all over the walls and floor. Despite this Lucas and I continued following the strange noises. We walked up the stairs and entered an apartment, the door was already broken down and in pieces. More dead wolves. I focused on the sounds. We walked into one of the bedrooms in the apartment.
An injured but otherwise fine wolf stood next to wolf that was on the brink of death, the dying wolf was the one breathing heavily and whimpering and the other wolf was the one sobbing for not only the dying one but there was another older looking wolf next to it that was actually dead. When it noticed Lucas and I, its eyes were alert and angry. Slowly its icy blonde colored fur began to disappear and its shape began to turn into that of a human's. Soon there was a girl sobbing on all fours in front of us, who wore a white dress with lilies imprinted all over the dress and seemed only a few years younger than me.
"Who are you?! I don't care anymore. JUST GET OUT!" She shrieked at us, she seemed as if she was in hysterics, but then again who wouldn't be if they had just lost people important to them. Her long icy blonde hair was a mess and and her aqua blue eyes looked at me with hatred, anger and despair. I ignored her and acted fast, I grabbed my healing potion from my belt and rushed over to the dying wolf. Healing potions were rare to come across but they worked miracles when used. God what else was I going to have to go through tonight. So far it's been, a blood filled nightmare, a psychotic vampire appeared in front of me and talked about garbage and now I was trying to save a wolf's life. The girl tried to push me away but I didn't even budge and then just pushed her back, which sent her tumbling a few feet away. When she continued to resist I had to say something.
"Look, just shut up and stay still while I try saving your friend's life." My words hit her like ice and she immediately became silent. I opened the wolf's mouth and tipped a few drops of the healing potion down its throat, then tipped half the bottle on his wounds and on its stomach where his insides were nearly showing and covered in blood. I carefully wrapped his wounds with my bandages which I usually used not wolve's I don't even know. I breathed a sigh of relief when everything was finished.
The wolf's breathing was now no longer as heavy and it wasn't whimpering, its light violet eyes looked up at me and I smiled at it softly. The wolf's minor wounds were already beginning to close up. I looked to my hands and they shook slightly, my hands were soaked with blood. I swallowed, my throat felt tight. That nightmare of mine really took its toll when I had to do my job. Suddenly a grey and black striped button up t-shirt wrapped around my hands, I looked up and saw Lucas had took off his outside shirt -which left him with a plain light grey t-shirt on- and was wiping the blood off of my hands. I smiled at him and my hands stopped shaking.
"Thanks." I said after he was done. I looked back to the girl.
The girl had sunk to her knees and was just gazing at the healing wounds, then she turned her eyes on me. For some reason those aqua blue eyes didn't seem grateful, they still had hatred and despair in them but this time they weren't directed at me, but more like they were directed to herself, the only emotion in her eyes actually directed to me were confusion.
"Why? You...you're a..." She stuttered helplessly, it didn't seem like she was type of girl that was shy or anything, it was just the shock of having people or wolves important to you die one after another while you experienced it. Lucas growled at her which made her flinch.
"She is not a vampire." He hissed at her, thinking it as an insult. I shook my head and patted his shoulder to make him calm down.
"He's right. I'm not a vampire, I'm human. Besides you can't smell me right now and I'm pretty sure if I was a vampire this potion wouldn't be working and I would stink to you, but I don't right?" I explained. She nodded. I looked back to the wolf on the ground, its minor wounds were all healed now, the only injuries it had now were the serious one around its stomach and a pretty harsh break on its back left leg. We'd have to wait for it to be calm enough to turn back into a human.
"What's your name?" I asked the girl halfheartedly.
"Lily." She answered, her eyes on the injured wolf. Well that explained the lilies on her dress. Slowly the dark chestnut brown wolf on the floor suddenly started turning back into its human form. It was a he. The boy wore only a pair of long black shorts, his chest was bare besides the bandages across his stomach and one shoulder, even though he had a mature face for his age and was slightly taller I could tell he was around the same age as Lily. He stood up slowly and Lily tried to support him but struggled deeply so I hooked his arm around my shoulder and helped him stand. Lily glared at me, but I could care less, who hadn't glared at me already. The boy turned to me and smiled kindly.
