Blood and Love: Chapter Four

Caleste and Ashton get into a fight... but end up doing something else... Read.
***Caleste's POV***

Okay... One of my two best friends is a witch. A freakin' witch. Holy crap. I never did like to be rushed into believing something. But for friggin' two days in a row I've had to believe in the freakin' supernatural. My calm reaction shouldn't be normal. As Rose tells me I warm to the idea of her as a witch. Weird things always happened around her.

"Cale, you believe me right? That you should stay away?" She asked and I rolled my eyes.

"Ashton and Maya are told as stories for nightmares to children I assume. Generation after generation. The children have never had to come up with an up close opinion. They believe the stories."

"But he made the glass fall!" She whispered loudly, her blue eyes blazing with a undeterred fire.

"From what you told me so far, you enraged him. Not everybody can control themselves. You said his kind is rare. Maybe he doesn't have the knowledge to control himself."

"I can't believe it... You're on his side! That or you're a saint!" She barely stopped herself from shouting.

"Rose." I murmured, "Let me form my own opinion. Since you had the courage to come up to such a bad person you have a spell to protect us."

"He's not a person." She mumbled. Then, "Yes. I do." The nurse came back in with a box and I passed out seeing the large needle she held. I'm a whimp.

***Ashton's POV***

The next day, Caleste confronted me after school. I had only seen her in the two classes and she kept rubbing her left shoulder. A bulk of padding under her sleeve showed me she had gotten hurt somehow. She would duck away when I tried to come up to her and I assumed the witch had gotten to her.

"Ashton," she said to me now. "I don't have practice today so let's go to your house." She looked directly into my eyes as she said this. I nodded, mesmerized. Different girl, but same effect. She took my sleeve and we headed off to my car.

Once we got to my house, she gaped. It was kinda smaller than I was used to, but this mansion might seem big to other people. I got claustrophobic easily. It was genetic from going to open plains and barely nothing cities, towns, buildings, etc.

It was a Victorian styled mansion. I had bought it for that reason. A little reminder of home. She turned to look at me but I stared up at the house with sad eyes. I missed my home and Maya. She really wasn't evil, evil like most believe sometimes, I think she's punishing herself for destroying my life. She punishes herself by pushing herself from others.

"You're sad." She whispered, "Why?"

I told Caleste my reasons and she gripped my hand reassuringly.

"You're not so bad." She said and I shook my head.

"The witch got to you. I knew she would but..." I trailed off and we stepped over the threshold. We entered my library because I had a TV in there and I'd been told teenagers enjoyed movies. The thought made me feel old... and creepy.

"But?" She prompted sitting primly on the leather couch in front of the TV. I lifted her feet, sat down, and laid her feet on my lap. I played with her shoelaces as I tried to come up with a better answer.

"But, I kinda wish you'd listen to her... because my world is bad... And Maya has made mistakes with the human heart." I told her and she gaped.

"How can you say that?" She asked. "The world is what you make of it and no matter what your mistakes are apart of yourself." She told me and I nodded solemnly. I reached out with the remote and turned on the news.

The news cast was talking about the murder of a little girl in the Eastwood park, not far from here. I felt bad that such a thing happens. Why don't they cherish life? I wondered. I had never killed another. Heck, I'd only ever killed, a bear, and three bunnies after my attempt at starvation.

Caleste turned to me with wide eyes, "You didn't did you? You killed that girl!" She shouted and jumped up. What!? Shock and rage pulsed through me and I couldn't help it when two glass vases with roses exploded on the coffee table in front of the leather couch.

"No!" I bellowed. "I don't kill!!" The thought made me want to puke but that wouldn't happen. I took a step towards Caleste and I saw terror in her cat green eyes.

"But this was on yesterday and it said her body was drained of blood." She said and I cursed myself.

"I don't kill. That doesn't mean other vampires don't! God damn, I'll have to find the guy!" I shouted, enraged. I want to sleep but when I almost get to, business calls. Caleste walked towards me and for some reason she kissed my cheek.

"I'll help. You didn't do it, I believe you." She kissed my cheek again and I felt a bubble of heat and desire rise. I grabbed her face and pressed my lips onto hers.

He kissed me. A desire surged through me and the emotion was so foreign that I almost couldn't handle it. I kissed him back wanting more. Just then, the library door opened and a snort sounded. We pulled away and looked at the intruder.

In the doorway stood an amazingly gorgeous woman. She had lustrous black hair that fell past her waist and ever-changing eyes. One second they were blue, then they were yellow. Her figure was curvaceous and I had to envy her full seductive lips.

"Hello, Asheteke."

"Maya..." Ashton breathed out.
What had Maya come for?
Her book (another series (The Book of Maya))
Her rouge vampire (She'll keep this a secret)
Her brother.
All of the above.
