When a woman ovulates, or produces eggs, she is known to be in her fertile phase. Before ovulation, there are several signs exhibited by a woman's body. Bloating during ovulation, especially is the lower abdominal region, is one of the symptoms of ovulation. The degree of bloating sensation may vary according to every woman. This is also one of the positive signs that you can conceive during this period. A mild pressure may also be felt in the abdominal region as a result of bloating. These signs may indicate the changes a woman's body undergoes during early pregnancy. However, some women may find this quite annoying, as it gives a feeling of fullness and an increase in weight.

Reasons for Abdominal Bloating during Ovulation

As mentioned earlier, bloating is one of the physical signs of ovulation that most women experience. During this time the levels of the hormones in the body surge. Changes in the hormonal level can lead to a number of alterations in the body. Cravings for certain foods may also increase during this period. Salt intake sees a rise, and women may tend to feast on popcorn, cheese, chips and other processed foods, which may be encrusted with salt. Over consumption of these salty foods tends to retain water in the tissues, which can give the feeling of bloating or fullness.

Sometimes the bloating sensation may be felt like gas filling in the abdomen and it may be even passed out of the body. Some women also gain weight as a result of bloating sensation during ovulation. This is because the body tends to retain water, which gets accumulated in the tissues. This is one of the primary reasons why there is a feeling of considerable weight gain during ovulation. Water retention may be seen as swelling in the arms and legs. The abdomen may also feel swollen and soft when touched.

Other signs of ovulation may include experiencing abdominal cramps, which may be preceded by bloating sensation. Cramps may be a result of the egg (or ovum) being released from the ovary. The breasts may appear to be tender or sore and hurt when touched. Some women may also experience a heightened sense for smell and taste. Mood swings and increased outbursts of energy is also one of the signs for impending ovulation. In rare cases, a few women may also experience nausea induced vomiting and headaches.

Remedial Measures for Bloating During Ovulation

You can get rid of bloating sensation quite easily, and also prevent its recurrence. The trick is to increase water intake and reduce the consumption of junk food, which has high concentration of salt. Alteration to the diet also helps in reducing this feeling. Include foods that dissuade water retention in the body or create gas. Following a routine exercise regimen will keep a check on weight gain and also keep you occupied. You can also take over the counter diuretics to drain the excess water out of your body. The diuretics function as a flush to remove the extra water from the tissues, retaining the required amount of water in the body. In case, over the counter drugs are not so effective, consult a health care provider or a gynecologist, who may diagnose your problem and prescribe the required drugs and medications.

If you have a feeling of discomfort or pain during this phase, or if you suffer from chronic or persistent bloating then consult a gynecologist, who will be able to analyze your exact condition and provide appropriate treatment. Take care!
