Bladder Tumor

A bladder cyst appears when the epithelial cells of the bladder begin to multiply at a rapid pace in an abnormal manner. Through this article let us see what is a bladder tumor, along with the symptoms and treatment methods...
Tumors are outgrowths that can occur in any part of the body, without any warning signal. These tumors can be malignant (cancerous) or benign (non cancerous) in nature. There can be a number of reasons why tumors make a sudden appearance, some of them being the presence of toxins in the body, an illness which may trigger unnatural development of the cells, and sometimes even hereditary. Just as the rest of the tumors, the bladder tumor appears in the urinary bladder, especially in the lining of the bladder. The bladder is an organ of the urinary system, which acts as a storehouse for urine till it is expelled from the body. The urine sometimes may contain toxins which may trigger the unnecessary development of the epithelial cells in the bladder.

Other factors responsible for a tumor in the bladder are the presence of urinary tract infection (UTI), which is chronic, exposure to carcinogenic chemicals and also due to a parasitic infection called schistosomiasis. Though tumors are mostly benign in nature, there are chances that it can even turn malignant in the absence of a proper diagnosis. This can lead to bladder cancer, which can be life-threatening and may even prove fatal in some cases. Hence to prevent any unnecessary complications it is essential to be aware of the bladder cancer symptoms and treatment for the same.

Symptoms of Bladder Cyst

For reasons unknown, the occurrence of cysts in the bladder in men is of high incidence in comparison to women. But the symptoms of bladder tumors in women and men are almost similar. However the signs may vary according to the size, type and the propagation of the disease. The initial signs may be mild in nature and are often overlooked.
  • One of the early symptoms to be exhibited is noticing traces of blood in urine, accompanied by pain and a burning sensation while relieving oneself. This condition is known as hematuria and can also be observed as one of the signs of bladder cancer.
  • There can be severe back or abdominal pain, which may radiate to other parts of the body. Sometimes the pain and discomfort may be so intense that moving about becomes a Herculean task.
  • Some individuals may suffer from urinary incontinence and may also need to frequently urinate.

Treating Bladder Tumor

It is always beneficial to monitor and treat the symptoms of bladder tumor in the initial stages. This will help avoid any unnecessary complications and also prevent this health disorder from becoming severe. Noticing any of the above symptoms and approaching a medical practitioner is always advisable. Before administering treatment, the doctor may conduct a battery of tests to diagnose the nature of the tumor - whether it is benign or malignant - with the help of a biopsy, its cause and also the severity of the symptoms. In case of the presence of any bladder infection, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics to treat the same. In case the tests for malignancy come out positive, then the only option left is the surgical removal of the tumor, along with some parts of the bladder as they may also be affected. The treatment for bladder cancer may involve the use of chemotherapy and radiation in order to destroy the cancerous cells and also curb their metastasis.

Since bladder tumors have a tendency to turn into cancerous cysts, a routine checkup with a health care provider can prevent this disorder from affecting you. Stay healthy!
