Black Sheep - Prologue and Chapter 1

Prologue

"Do a twirl!" my extremely excited sister, Joana, yelled at me clapping her hands.

With a sigh, I swallowed my pride and twirled around in a big lavender bridesmaid dress.

"It's perfect. Oh my gosh Anna! I can't believe this is finally happening to me. I was so shocked when Mike proposed to me! I know you're going to just love him," Joana gushed.

I watched as her eyes got all dreamy and smiled. She really did love him.

"I'm so glad your found the love of you life, but could we please get me out of this god damn," I paused looking down at what I was wearing.

What the hell am I supposed to call this? It didn't even remotely look like a dress at all.

"Get me out of this happiness sucker," I laughed when Joana shot me a are-you-serious? look.

After she had brought out all the other bridesmaids, which were a lot, I was finally able to get out of the lavender cotton ball dress. Joana was a social butterfly so therefore she had a lot of bridesmaids. I think the number came out to a total of fifteen. Why she had so many bridesmaids was a question that was never going to get an answer besides "Because I like people, unlike you."

I was the odd ball out among all the bridesmaids, and not to mention my entire family. Joana was like living barbie doll, and even had the personality of a bubbly girly girl. My mother looked like an older version of my sister: blonde hair, blue eyes, pouty lips, big breasts, slim figure, and very long legs. At the age of fifty my mother got hit on more than I did and that said a lot for me being at the ripe age of twenty. I was told that I looked exactly like a female version of my father: brown hair, green eyes, freckles, long legs (both my mother and my father had long legs), and a toned body due to all the countless hours I spent hitting the gym or running. The only thing that I thought I lacked was breasts, but according to my mother I also lacked social skills. My size b-cup boobs were nothing compared to my sisters c-cups boobs. Not only was I the odd ball out because of my looks but also my personality was completely different than my mother's and sister's girly girl personalities. While they were out shopping and acting like bffs, I was running from our neighbor, Jones, because I threw a mud ball at him. I never did like Jones.

Chapter 1

I stood next to Amy, and it wasn't a surprise when I was the farthest from the bride. The music began to play and everyone stood up just in time for the doors to open. Joana walked down the aisle hanging on my mother's arm. I knew her husband to be, Mike, was going to be a hottie but damn did he have to look so good? I was going to have to see this sexy god every time I went to a family reunion. Man, maybe I would have to skip family reunions now. The church door burst open and jaw dropping man walked in wiping the sweat of his brow.

"Uh-," he blinked a few times like he was confused and then muttered a sorry and stood at the back.

"Dan! Shithead, you stand next to me!" Mike yelled and the whole room broke out in laughter.

I rolled my eyes, but a smile played on my lips as he jogged down the aisle to stand next to his best friend. Of course, he was Mike's best man. Mike was hot and he attracted hot guys for his friends. Joana pretended to laugh along with everybody but I could tell that she was pissed off. No doubt Mike was going to get an earful later. I chuckled at that thought but then quieted down as the wedding proceeded. They looked like the perfect couple and I felt a twinge of jealousy in the pit of my stomach. Why couldn't I find a guy like that? Thankfully, the wedding was over and everybody moved on to the reception. I told myself I was only going for the food but a part of me was hoping a sexy guy would talk to me. I sat alone at a table with a plate full of food to comfort myself.

"Hate weddings," I mumbled under my breath as I stuffed a fork full of cheesecake in my mouth.

It was twenty minutes in and so far nobody had talked to me, not even my mother. Fuck, I had already gone through two plate fulls of food and I didn't know if my stomach could handle anymore. The only company I had was my plate of food, and that only reminded me of my loneliness.

"Hey," my cousin, Derek, sat down next to me, eying me cautiously.

"What?" I barked at him around a mouthful of food.

Derek was always a sweetheart. He once told me that he felt more like a woman than a man and that once he turned eighteen he was getting a sex change.

"Dance with me," he held out his hand and I took it so I could get away from my food.

"I feel like I'm about to throw up," I groaned as I got up to my feet.

"Girl, quit complaining," Derek shot me a look and I stuck my tongue out at him.

"I'm gonna miss the boy Derek," I said when we were finally dancing.

"I'll be the same, just look different," he patted my back.

"I know."

We both fell silent as the song turned to a slow sweet song. A song for a couple.

"C'mon. Nobody else wants to dance with me and I know you're not dancing with anybody else," he pouted as I pulled back to go back to my table.

"It's only because I love you, Erica," I giggled when I used his girl name he had chosen for himself.

"Man, that name sounds good, doesn't it?" He asked me and I nodded my head, but only for his benefit.

It felt nice to be held, even if it was with my transsexual cousin. When the song ended we both pulled apart and went our separate ways. He went to go congratulate the newlyweds and I went back to my table, alone.

"You haven't congratulated your sister," my mother scolded as I was finishing up my second round of champagne.

"Yes, mother," I responded like a robot and threw back my head to laugh.

She asked as she walked away but I dutifully went to where my sister was standing with her new husband.

"Congratulations," I forced a smile and she pulled me in a hug.

"Thank you! You two haven't met properly," she turned to Mike.

"Mike this is Anna, my sister," she grinned and I stuck my hand out for him to shake.

"Nice to meet you," I said when we both shook hands.

"Isn't she just a sweet girl?" My sister asked Mike and I snorted before covering my mouth with my hand.

His eyebrows went up but he agreed with his new wife.

"Dan!" my sister yelled and I bite my tongue.

I was now nestled into a group and didn't know how to get out to go back to my table.

"This is my sister, Anna," she introduced us and I pressed my lips together, sticking my hand back out for him to shake.

"Nice to meet you," I said once again but he seemed distracted.

"You too," he responded and then just walked away.

What a douche bag, I thought and watched as everyone's face turned to shock as they stared at me. Mike was the only one who laughed, leaving me completely puzzled.

"What?" I asked but got no reply.

"She is a really sweet girl," Mike said before laughing again.

"You just called Dan a douche bag," my sister explained and my mouth went in a perfect O shape.

"I said that out loud?" I asked and she nodded.

"Oops," I bite my lip.

"Don't worry, he really is one," Mike said to make me feel better and I smiled.

"I better go before I do anymore damage. The wedding was beautiful," I told my sister and hugged her before leaving the wedding all together.
