Black Mold Allergy Symptoms

Black mold comes into being in heavily damp areas. Found mostly where there is intensive water leakage, in buildings, on ceilings and walls, in bathrooms and kitchens, and practically in any areas that are perpetually damp, black mold or toxic black mold can cause a lot of health risks to both, adults and children if they are constantly inhaling the spores. While some may develop a black mold allergy characterized by symptoms such headaches and difficulty breathing, others may develop a toxic mold syndrome that includes many severe symptoms.

Symptoms

One may develop a black mold allergy due to a weak immune system, in addition to the fact that the person may be continuously exposed to black mold thereby triggering an allergic reaction. When black mold spores are inhaled, a body with a weak immune system triggers antibodies in order to fight the effects of this foreign body. In doing so, the following toxic black mold exposure symptoms in humans may be noticed.

1. Effects on Breathing
One of the first symptoms is a runny nose, continuous sneezing, wheezing, and coughing. It may also result in shortness of breath, and in severe cases, asthma attacks have also been reported. With continuous exposure, one may also develop severe respiratory infections.

2. Effects on Eyes
Symptoms of mold exposure also show themselves in the form of red, itchy, and watering eyes. Due to these effects it is likely that one may become sensitive to light or one's vision may be affected so that everything appears blurred.

3. Headache
There has been a close association between mold and headaches, where a headache begins immediately after exposure to black mold. A headache may also be the result of the aforementioned symptoms that affect the body. Fever is also a common symptom of an allergy to black mold.

4. Effects on Skin
Black mold exposure symptoms also include a breakout of an itchy rash on the skin. In some cases, the allergic reaction may be severe enough to cause a case of hives.

5. Lung Bleeding
While the aforementioned symptoms are fairly common, one of the biggest health risk that can be caused by black mold poisoning, is the bleeding of the lungs. In case of extended exposure or extreme weakening of the immune system, it is likely lung bleeding may occur, leading to death.

6. Other Symptoms
Some other symptoms may also include forgetfulness, weakness of the central nervous system, nose bleeding, anemia, nausea, vomiting, rectal bleeding, and dizziness.

It is likely that one may experience more than one of the symptoms mentioned above. For instance, one may experience itchy eyes and irritation in the throat at the same time. It is also important to keep in mind that every body will react differently to black mold, and the intensity of its symptoms will be different in every individual. So while for some it may stop at wheezing, at others it may get worse and cause a severe case of shortness of breath.

The first thing to do when any of the symptoms are noticed is to get away from the affected source of black mold or attempt a thorough black mold removal. If the symptoms become severe or do not subside, visiting a doctor in order to receive appropriate medication will be of great help in treating these symptoms. In any case, do not discard these symptoms as a basic allergy. They should be reported to a doctor before they get any worse and result in some very unlikely effects.
