Black Mamba - Part 3
We meet those who work closely with Oya. A surprise shows up at the Pantheon.
Comments please!
I.Don't.Want.To.Be.Here. I fumed to myself as I listened to the rambling in the room. Zeus had rounded up the team, meaning, Nabil, Takuma, Gates, Loser, a.k.a Achilles and myself into one of our operation rooms and was giving us the layout of what we had to do. Gates was scribbling note furiously while Nabil and Takuma listened intensely. I was busy twisting the growth of my hair while Achilles was leaned back in his chair seeming very close to falling asleep.
A smirk dance on my lips until Zeus called me out snapping me out of my reverie. "Sir yes sir?" I answered sarcastically getting a roll of his eyes for an answer. "I said you were going to go with Takuma to the weapons and ammunition locker and set up what you needed." I nodded and waved a dismissive hand. That was the usual. I didn't care who came with, as long as it wasn't that dimwitted Korean sucker that came with.
Propping my feet up unto the table, my boots landing with a heavy thud; I pushed a single dread away before folding my hands over my stomach. "So when are we leaving?" Five heads turned to look at me; Zeus shaking his head as Achilles snickered, rocking his chair back and forth on its hind legs. "What?" I asked raising a brow. Gates cleared his throat and adjusted in his seat like the usual little fidgety nerd he was. "Zeus just said we are supposed to leave within five days." Oh. I'd miss that part apparently. I scrunched my nose and nodded while Achilles snickered. "Too busy checking me out Oya?" With a scoff I lowered my feet and kicked one of the back legs of his chair sending him sprawling unto the floor with a groan as the chair clattered back loudly.
"Oya..." Zeus scolded as I flashed him a sweet and innocent smile, raising my hands up. "Oops?" He shook his head and slowly ran his palm down his face as he mumbled something that looked dangerously close to not wanting kids and still ending up with some. Achilles sat up from the ground rubbing the back of his head and his almond shaped eyes glared at me before he stood up dusting off his sweatpants and tilted the chair back up with his foot and sat down.
"If you wanted me sprawled on my back for you all, you had to do is ask, though I doubt this is the appropriate time pumpkin." The look I made must have been murderous for Zeus said my name softly. I look at him and raised a brow. "Is this shit over?" He barely had time to nod that I was already up and getting out of the room.
"Oya?" I stilled, my fingers skimming the handle and glanced over my left shoulder towards Zeus.
"Hmm?"
"Breathe sometimes." With a roll of my eyes I pushed the open and closed it with my foot before I started for my room.
Moments later, I laid on my back, my right arm folded under my head as I stared up at the ceiling. I hated this place. Hell when the infection broke out I was actually relived. The world is, was and will always be an ugly place. People are ugly. Not just outside, but inside. Even when they seemed to care or love, it's only because they get something out of it. Be it money, fame or affection. I had no time for false pretenses. I don't need anyone. I don't care for anyone anyway.
What little emotional attachment I had, had been lost during the first year of the infection. It was pretty gruesome at first. Dismembered bodies littered the cities within the first month. The body count was so high there was no way of knowing how big it was, how many deaths were to come.
At first people had thought a biological war had finally taken place. But when it spread internationally. There was no doubt that human's were on the brink of extinction. Fanatics cried apocalypse, anarchist cried New World Order, Scientists called it evolution. But no matter what they called it. It was happening and spreading fast. Politicians and the higher classes tried to flee using whatever cash they had only to realize that the infection did not discriminate class.
The name Black Mamba had risen in the newspaper for the infected were only distinguishable by the fact their mouths and tongue became pitch black just like the snake.
The true horror began six months after the infection had risen. That's when people realized that this wasn't some dawn of the dead movie. The infected were smart, strong and lethal. One out of ten stayed alive after being infected. No one knew exactly what happened to them. But they would appear dead and then one day rise and disappear. That's when we realized what was really going on. Someone had purposely spread the infection.
Someone was building an army. Someone powerful. Sure people became mindless killers, murdering everything in their path, feeding off the warm blood and flesh of innocents. But they also hunted in packs and seemed to be following a direct pattern. I had time to observe them before I had reached Pantheon. Someone was giving them orders. Someone had found a way to control them. Various rumors began of angels of death walking the earth, an army of Mamba's at their side and tearing through cities. But that rumor died down when most means of communication did.
At that point the ugly, true side of human beings showed. People savagely murdered one another for food and shelter and clothing. Rape had become common as well as the taking of slaves. Many shelters were some sort of dictatorship. Here people were fairly left to their own. As long as they kept the peace they were guaranteed shelter. An indoor crop had been built in the ship allowing the growth of food. Meat was scarce nowadays but we had a few biologist as well as farmers on the boat who were trying to figure out a way to keep cattle going without the infection spreading to them.
My eyes closed and the screams filled my head once again. Flames licked at my feet as I flattened myself against the wall. Laughter was heard around me and just as I felt a hand wrapped in my hair tightly my eyes flew open. It took me a few moments to recognize my surroundings and I let myself drop back into my bed. "Fuck..." I whispered softly and breathed slowly and placed a hand over my stomach.
Just as I sat up and swung my feet over my bed and unto the floor, the strident alarm started. Raising a brow, I grabbed my jacket and my Derringer before I ran out of my room slamming into Achilles just as he left his. "You know what's up?" He asked me and I shook my head before whirling around and running to the main operation room. Gates had his face plastered unto one of the screens, Zeus standing behind him. They both raised their heads as I stormed in flanked by Achilles and Takuma.
"Survivor." Was all Gates said before I raised a brow and none too gently shoved him away from the screen. A man stumbled along the road a double barrel dragging on the floor and a handgun in his left hand. He looked rather burly and seemed exhausted as he kept glancing over his shoulder and around. As he reached the fence, white beams of light flashed upon him. His hair covered most of his face as well as a beard which was as dirty as the rest of him. He waved a hand lightly before he dropped his guns and raised his hands. "Oya..." Zeus began before I turned and nodded at him leaving the room at a jog.
I skidded and slithered between the people in the corridors vaguely aware of the sound of pounding boots behind me. As I reached the door, wind slapped at me, my eyes focused on the figure ahead bathed in light. I pulled out my Derringer and raised it, aiming at the man's forehead and took careful steps glancing around for any sign of movement. "Open your mouth." I said my eyes daring him to do otherwise. Green eyes looked me over then to my left and right where I guess Achilles and Takuma were before he slowly opened his mouth revealing a pink interior.
I turned around and waved my gun back and forth before they opened the gate. As soon as the man stepped in, I pressed the barrel of my gun against his chest. "Ta ta taaa." I sang as I waved my finger in disapproval. "Hands forward."
No sooner had he raised his hands that I cuffed them and shoved his large frame forward. He glared back at me before Takuma slid in front of him and Achilles picked up his weapons on the floor and followed us inside.
As we arrived, I shoved him into the scan and gave the medic kid a glared seeing he was too busy staring at the large man. I impatiently kicked his chair. "I don't fucking have all night." I hissed, causing him to jump and nod quickly as he began the scan.
When the light turned green, I gave the man another push. We escorted him to our medical section and motioned for him to sit on one of the gurneys. The bed creaked heavily under protest at the man's weight and I almost felt like starting a bet on how many minutes the bed was going to last as we waited for Doc Janet to show up.
