Bitten Wings 31
Drake touched the blood on his neck..
Drake rubbed his head, "Great..she's gone..good job Jean."
"Drake..I'm sorry..i can go find her..if it'll make you happy."
Great..he thought to himself, do I just say get lost I'm not your guy?
"No. She ain't that happy with you if you haven't noticed.."
She nodded solemnly, "Right.."
Drake leaned against the wall, looking at her. "Where do you think she would've gone?"
"No idea." she mumbled, irritated it was Angel he could only think about.
He sighed, "Wonderful." he stood up, walking to the door. Jean grabbed his arm, "Wait..you're leaving?"
He looked at her hard. "I need to find her."
"Don't leave me..what if-"
"Yeah, they aren't. Let's just go find her, alright? Don't do anything stupid when we do." He growled, turning and walking out. Jean followed him quickly. He asked the receptionist if she saw Angel walk out, and she told them she had headed downtown. They took of in that direction.
"Drake?"
"What?"
"What if she left with the vampires?"
"Doubt she'd do that." he answered shortly. Would she just stop talking negative!?
"How come? She is one of them after all..."
He turned around sharply, opening his mouth to say something, then froze. It was Angel..she was asleep on a park bench. The shadows moved around her.
"Drake? What?"
He pushed her aside, screaming at Angel, running towards her. A cloaked figure stepped in front of him, pushing him back. Over his shoulder Drake could see the shadows shape into figures, tying Angel's hands, tapping her mouth, wrapping a large rope over her, pushing her wings against her back. "Angel!" He howled. Behind him Jean cowered, stepping back, then running. Yeah, that's right. Run. Let the bloody world fall into ruin!
Angel stirred, and he thought she heard him. They clamped something around her neck, then pulled her over one's shoulders. The figure in front of him gripped his neck, lifting his feet off the ground. His eyes were covered with a black cloth, but he grinned, his fangs flashing.
"You didn't see anything."
"Let..her..go.." he gasped, his eyes on Angel as they started carrying her deeper into the city.
"I don't think I'm going to do that." he pulled Drake closer, bitting down hard on his neck. He howled out in pain, kicking and thrashing. The vamp let him go, causing him to hit the ground hard. He gasped, touching the blood on his neck.
"Welcome, brother." the vamp hissed darkly, grinning. He turned and strode off.
"Get up."
The order rang in my head, but I couldn't comprehend it.
"Get up!"
It was..Addere's voice..crap! I jolted to my feet, then swayed, getting up too fast. The room spun around me and I moaned, staggering back and leaning against a wall. Addere grinned at me, "Very good. I have need of you."
"Do it yourself." I hissed, my eyes narrowed. Then I collapsed again, clawing at my neck in a hopeless attempt to get the collar off. "I-I'm sorry!" I gasped, my hands shaking. "S-Sorry!" the pain ended, leaving me panting. I didn't look up, my eyes on the ground.
"You'd best remember not to do that. You'll be dead before you know it. Then you'll be no help to anyone."
I nodded slowly, getting to my feet slowly. I could hear the smirk in his voice, "Come along." I closed my eyes, following the smell of his blood instead of being fully conscious. Hadn't slept at all. Fear kept me up.
Fear. Never would've thought I'd have that inside me again. I stopped, opening my eyes and looking at Addere. He smirked, pointing out a window. We were in the city..my eyes widened, the city!? Oh God, they had a whole facility inside the city!
"There's another building in the next city over. I want you to go there and meet with the vampire Naru. Understood?"
I cocked an eyebrow, "Why?"
He handed me an envelope, "Give this to him."
I snarled, "You said I'd be a scout, not some messenger."
He laughed darkly, "I can decide what you are." he turned, heading towards another door. He pushed it open, stairs behind it.
"Go."
I hesitated, taking a step back and looking at the letter. When I glanced up again he was fingering the control, grinning, flashing his fangs. I hurried past him, running up the stairs. My wings stretched, itching for a flight. I glanced at them, sighing. I wouldn't be going far within the day. They were still healing, still strengthening the small layer of feathers. But I might manage to make a flight.
I was panting when I reached the roof, sitting down and stretching my wings. I ran my hand through them, tears burning my eyes. Chloe had betrayed me. I was doomed from the beginning. And now I was helping the vamps. Wonderful.
I got up, pushing away my pains. I stretched out my wings, going to the other side of the roof to get a running start. I ran, jumping right before the ledge, my wings catching the air and lifting me up. The turrets started to roar to life, taking aim at me. I ground my teeth, but they didn't fire. It was my wings..they thought I was on their side..My shoulders shook, my eyes closing. Tears rolled down my cheeks, they trusted me..and I was betraying them..
I landed, my wings sore, my eyes puffy from crying. I was in the forest now, sitting in an unfamiliar tree as I rested against it. My wings went slack, falling down the branch. I moaned, looking at the envelope in my hand. I traced it, wanting and wishing to open it. But..they'd notice..unless..I smirked, tearing the envelope open. In horror I read:
Dear Naru,
This girl before you is the Winged. Chloe has been a great help. I thank you for controlling her for us. However, your control did slip, causing her to act like herself. Do not let it happen again.
Now, as I was saying, this girl's name is Angel. Do what your heart desires, but make sure she is broken. When she is, send her back. Have her broken within the month. Else the attack will have to wait. Do not fail me.
Addere
My face paled. They had to break me for the attack to go on. What did that entail!? I shuddered, reading the note over. Was Chloe my sister or not!? I sighed, tearing the note in half, then pocketed it. I had to be able to remember Addere's hand writing perfectly to create a fake one. Maybe one that said, "This is the Winged do whatever she tells you to and do not argue!" I chuckled to myself, shaking my head. If only it was that easy.
"Drake..I'm sorry..i can go find her..if it'll make you happy."
