__________
I crouched behind a desk, the human's pulse in my ears. Addere was crouching next to me, both our faces twisted into a snarl.
"I want the one on the left," I whispered, and before he could object, I had thrown myself at the man, throwing him to the ground and biting into his neck. The other comrade ran at me, but Addere hit him over the head, gripping his neck, and bitting down hard in the slim flesh. The blood stained our lips and moments later we pulled away from the now cold bodies. I wiped my lips on my sleeve, "I've had better." I wined, "I thought you said the good ones were in this building!"
"All the bloody buildings look alike here, Angel.."
I sighed, shaking my head, "Suppose so.."
Addere smiled, walking to my side and intwining his fingers in mine, "Where to now love?"
I smiled back at him, "Well...Let's see...I'm not really that hungry anymore.."
"Only after three kills?"
I nodded, "Yeah..I wasn't that hungry in the first place."
He nodded, "We can head back then-" alarms sounded, the windows suddenly covered in metal, the door locking. We both sighed and I leaned against Addere, "I'm tired, love."
He ran his hand through my hair, "You can sit and wait then. I'll be down with them shortly."
I smiled, "Alright. Be safe, love." I pulled away from him, sitting down and closing my eyes. The light made it impossible to sleep however. I leaned my forehead against my knees, yawning. The door swung open and the men surrounded me.
"Get up!" they hollered, "And no funny stuff!"
Even with my eyes shut I could see them with my senses. Addere had a finger over his lips, grinning darkly. I sighed, standing up and throwing my arms into the air above me, "Guess you caught me." I sounded slightly disappointed, then opened my eyes, the slits narrowing on one man. I smirked darkly, "Have you ever thought of joining us? You would make an incredible unit. You'd probably be my personal bodyguard."
The five men took a step back, glancing at each other, yet guns pressed against me still.
"You...You're the...-"
"Queen? Yeah, used to fight for you guys too." I shrugged, "But you guys seemed content in fighting me and my sister, trying to kill us instead of helping us. So, I said that I'd join them." I sighed and shook my head, "But my King didn't do that all so nicely. He bit me and made me fight him..nearly made me kill a few people too.." I grinned, "They ended up dead anyways."
"You know, love. You shouldn't tell your life story to these humans." He seemed to spit the word, his dark, menacing voice floating around the room. The men turned to him suddenly, forgetting me for a split second. And it was their mistake. One fell to the ground when I snapped his neck, picking up his gun and belting it. "Another to the collection." I glanced up at Addere who was poised to attack and the other men ready to pull the trigger. He glanced at me, and I groaned, flicking my wrist. Time seemed to slow down to an unbearably slow pace. I allowed Addere to move as normal, and as the men stared at the spot he was he simply walked over to them and bit down, draining each's life. He pulled away, the men still standing, not knowing they were dead. I turned away, looking out the window, motion going on as normal outside. I opened my dark, leathery wings, and motion returned to the men, all falling to the ground in unison.
"You should take their guns for analyzing. What new ways do they think they can kill us with?" I smirked, Addere coming up to me and wrapping his arm around my waist.
"Already ahead of you, love." he kissed me softly on the lips, running his other hand down my spine. I flushed, the only human thing I was still capable of. I pulled away, "Not now, Addere." I breathed, and he smiled at me, with a strange light in his eyes. "Alright, Angel."
He opened his wings, ours overlapping, and we both jumped out the window, the boards breaking in our wake as two vampires flew out, side-by-side, hands intwined. Men and woman alike screamed. Some children stared and gaped, while others ran for cover. I laughed aloud, "When will the army be ready, Addere?"
"Very soon, love, very, very soon." He smiled darkly, looking over with cold eyes the human's world. I read his mind, shaking my head, "No, not the children."
He arched an eyebrow, looking at me. "What?"
"We cannot kill the children. They will be changed just like us. They have not wronged us."
"They are being taught to!"
"But they aren't old enough to understand, to make a decision for themselves. We will spare them."
"Fine.." he grunted, just as a bullet ripped through his wing. He howled out an unearthly sound, gripping my hand tighter, his left wring falling limp.
"We got him!" a voice shouted.
"Damn it.." I hissed, pulling Addere into an embrace, holding him tight, my wings straining against the extra weight.
"Addere.." I groaned, "I can't make it if we go in air..and with the men-" I swerved just in time as another bullet flew past my head.
"Watch it!" I howled, baring my teeth.
"Drop me." he moaned. "Drop me..they won't kill me..I'm the King."
"No! I'm not dropping you!" blood trailed from my mouth as a shot hit me directly in the gut. "Damn!" I croaked, "Those actually hurt! What the hell are they using!?" I pushed up in the air, trying to get higher altitude. As soon as I got away from the men in the buildings and on the ground, the turrets turned to me. I stared in horror as I heard it being loaded. A man ran before the barrel, yelling, "Don't shoot, don't shoot!"
I blinked, looking at him with wonder. He was familiar. I heard another man shouting, "Get out of the way, boy!"
"That's Angel! That's Angel! We got to give her the antidote!"
"Shoot.." I turned and beat my wings in the air, hard. My breath became labored, the shot strangely not healing. The bullet remained lodged into my gut, spilling blood, trailing down my leg.
"Angel...there's a bullet in your stomach..it's going to kill you.."
"No it won't!" Then I wavered, "What is it made of?"
"Some kind of metal..with poison wrapped around it...there's a strange substance.."
I moaned, my eyes shutting, clenching close against the pain. "Don't touch it!" I snapped as he moved his hand to touch it. We passed the barrier, no other men or women shooting at us along the way. But as soon as I passed the barrier, I collapsed, shielding Addere as long as I could till I hit a tree with my back, sending him flying from my arms, and sending me unconscious. The first time in three months I had ever been in pain, enough to send me unconscious.
