Bitten Wings Part 16

Short, but surprising....
Opening the closet I scanned the dresses. Which were all black, red, or some mix of both. Seriously, do they worship death and depressing things? Sighing, I took a small dress with a red skirt and sleeves, and the rest was black. It looked as if the front was sewn together with red string. Painfully-for I hated dresses-I put the dress on. As least I could still move, there just wasn't as much breathing space. I took as much air that was aloud into my lungs and glanced out the window. Such a pretty day. Too bad I was about to doom the world.

"Finally! Are you ready?"

I looked back at my sister without sympathy, without kindness. I'm sure if I could see my own eyes, I would look dead. I was killed more times than I could count. My heart seemed to pump no more, the air felt like needles down my throat. My own sister, about to doom the world. I sighed and nodded, "Lead the way."

Chloe looked triumphant, her chest puffed up big. "Finally," she repeated.

She led me through long hallways with snickering vampires at every corner. They grinned and asked me how I felt. I answered everyone with, "Freaking good enough to drive a stake through your heart!" That shut them up.

Chloe was wearing a large, red dress that puffed out far. I wondered how she could walk in the thing.

As we passed a training room I stopped. Knives hung from nearly every wall, neatly hung, and sharpened to their tip. If only I had enough courage to reach for one. If only I had enough courage to die. From the corner of my I saw Chloe stiffening. My hand brushed the pointed end, drawing blood from my fingertips. The red glistened in the light that shone through the castle window. I forced myself to deal with the pain, this was nothing to the pain I felt inside.

Nothing.

Chloe stood by my side, I was chained to two wooden posts. My arms and legs outstretched. A large crowd was standing before her throne, cheering. I closed my eyes and forced away the tears. My wings were held by two vampires with rough hands, holding them so tightly they started to feel numb.

"Today, is a glorious day," Chloe began, silencing the crowd. "The winged one is found and we will have our world. We will reclaim it in the name of all those who died searching for them. Searching for Angel." she turned to me and laid her hand on my cheek. I could barely remember her touch, the sweet, innocent touch of her small hand.

"My brother should be here for this, standing before you instead of me. But she killed him, claiming she didn't."

Shouts rose up, screams of hatred. She rose her hand and they silenced, "Today, she will become your Queen and lead us into a new era! Our rein over the world." she paused while she looked into my eyes, the eyes that held death inside. "Normally, my brother would continue on with our history, but today I feel why should we dawdle? We should have our Queen now, make the world our own now."

Cheers rose up, then silent. Dead silence. Chloe leaned in close, pressing her lips against my neck. I felt the tip of them press against my flesh, then they started to draw blood. I thrashed against the pain, the chains pressing into my arms and legs. But it was useless. She drank my blood. Anger seared up on me, overwhelming the pain. I yelled out in a screeching, demon like voice. Chloe released me and stepped back, blood on her lips. I gasped hard, pain coming from everywhere. I yelled out again, the chains holding me breaking, the vampires keeping me fell back. I could barely breathe. The crowd gasped, screaming in horror at the sight of me. My vision became blurred, reds blending in with everything. I fingered my neck, feeling the holes. I turned to Chloe who held out her hands. "Our Queen."

The crowd's screams changed to cheers. I staggered forward, a vampire jumping up to catch me. I threw him off, sending him flying into the wall with a sickening snap. Screams rose up here and there. I turned around searching for a way out. In my poor vision a light shone through the darkness. I ran to it. Shouts calling to stop me rose up as I fell through the air. I opened my wings, feathers flacking off. The pure white being replaced with black leather. A few feathers hung on for dear life. I felt the pain rise up again, breaking through my anger. I faltered in the air, the pain too much. I screamed out again in the screeching voice I had newly acquired. The pain rose to my upper jaw, pressing down hard. Fangs' tips broke through my mouth. I tasted blood in my mouth. My wings caught the air again and brought me farther into the air. My vision changed to infra red. The rest of my feathers fell off, leaving scales and leather in their place. They looked like a bat's wings.

"ANGEL!" a voice shouted, and I looked behind me. I could see a figure standing in the light of the castle, "ANGEL! I remember now! I remember!" another figure came and took her away. I wondered if I would ever see my sister again.
