Someone was shouting in my ears, shaking me awake. I opened my eyes to see Drake furiously trying to shake my head off my shoulders. I swatted his hands away, "What?"
A hand came on Drake's shoulder causing him to shut his mouth.
"I told you not to wake her." the voice sounded hollow. A face came into my sight. I gasped and got to my feet. He was the vampire that attacked me.
"Calm down," he said, holding up his hands, "I'm not-"
I screamed. He sighed and looked down, rubbing his forehead. I glanced between Drake, who was clutching a large branch, and Jean, who had her hands over her mouth, breathing hard.
"You-why are yo here?" I asked, trying my hardest to keep myself steady as I balanced on the edge of the tree.
"I came here to help you."
I let out a forced laugh, "You? By digging your fangs into me? Well, if that isn't a plan I don't know what is."
He looked up at me, his eyes narrowed, and I felt all the air in my lungs vanish.
"I've found a way to get human even when your-"
"Trying to kill everyone else and sucking them dry?"
"Would you shut up?!" he snapped, and I smirked.
"Depends."
He sighed, the continued, "even when you've been bitten. Its hard, but I've slowly started to come back. I've been tracking you since I escaped."
"Hm. I don't know if I should be flattered or utterly terrified."
"That isn't funny," he growled, "I'm trying to help you."
"You're not funny either."
I saw Drake shake his head, telling me to shut it. I shifted my wings, making sure they were ready to get away at any moment. I sighed, and told him to continue.
"Thank you. I've come to protect you, as you can see I can stand in the light, so the poison that's plagued me is wearing off."
"That or you're like some super vampire."
He smirked, showing his fanged teeth. "I guess you'll just have to trust me."
I shuddered, "Um, doubt that."
He frowned, his lip falling over his fangs, allowing me to release the breath I had held in.
"I'm coming with you."
"No, you're not."
He jumped at me, taking me off guard, holding my chin with one hand, and gripping both my wrists with the other. I kicked off the tree, spun us around, and we landed with a hard sound of bone against ground. He gasped and released me. I jumped up, swooping up and grabbing Jean and Drake. Jean screamed, and I looked down. He really was persistent. He was jumping from branch to branch, following me from below. I veered, pulling the two I carried closer to me. Below he was in perfect step as if he knew what I was about to do before I did it.
"I'm not here to hurt you!" he shouted below.
"Yeah, and I'm the Mayor of the World."
"Angel," Jean said, "maybe we should listen to him."
I pulled her up so I could see her face, "Yeah, and maybe I should drop you."
She shut her mouth. I flew higher then stopped. Below he jumped a few branches, then turned around and looked up at me. I was gasping hard, holding two people, and flying for my life. He wasn't even breathing hard. There wasn't any way I could out run him. My injured wing shuttered, but continued to work. I started to strain against gravity.
"Any plans?"
Drake spoke up, "Angel, he came when you were sleeping. He didn't even touch you. He gave us medicine to get you out of your sleep."
"He WHAT!? And you fed it to me?"
Drake fell silent.
"I could pass out again for all we know!"
"You woke up," Jean squeaked.
My rage sizzled out as my arms shuttered, beginning to loose their strength.
"Angel," Drake gasped as my arms fell slightly limp.
"Fine. Guess we're all going to get bitten. But if neither of you two get bitten I'm going after you first."
Drake let out a forced laugh and I dived.
I landed smoothly throwing them both off me. Drake let out an "oof" then smiled up at me. I glared at him as the vampire walked towards us.
"So, you've-"
"I still don't trust you. I only came down cause I was going to drop these two if I didn't."
He shrugged, "Fair enough." he smiled, and I snapped, "Don't you dare show your teeth. They freak me out."
He laughed, "Can't promise you that."
A shiver ran down my spine as he looked me over. I took note his eyes fell on my neck several times.
"Your injured," he said, finally breaking the silence.
"Yeah, want to like off the blood?"
He glared at me, "Actually, I don't."
I shrugged, "Yeah, yeah, whatever."
He stepped towards me, reaching out to my wing, and I jumped back, slapping his hand hard. He looked surprised, "That actually hurt!"
I narrowed my eyes, "It was supposed to."
"No, I mean, not many things hurt me cause I'm still part-"
"Blood suckin' vampire." I grinned as he looked ticked.
"Would you stop saying that?!"
I shrugged, still ginning, "Perhaps."
Drake and Jean laughed, then were cut silent as the vampire swung around to stare at them.
"I'm Angel," I quickly put in, hopping to draw attention away from the two undefended, blood rich, humans.
He glanced back at me, "I know." he grinned, showing off his teeth. I shivered.
"I'm ___."
"___," I repeated. Drake and Jean exchanged glances, both getting to their feet and backing away some. I opened my mouth to question but ___ gripped my wrist so tightly I thought he would break the bones. He stared at my eyes, his eyes clouding, his white hair suddenly so. .freaky. I backed away, and he gripped me harder. He grinned, showing his wicked teeth. When I opened my mouth to complain it went dry. Even my breath came shallow.
"Stop it! Stop!"
His smile vanished, his eyes becoming clearer.
"I'm-I'm sorry." he let go of my wrist and looked down, then walked away. I looked at Drake who shook his head. "Jean" he mouthed. I stared at Jean, who was smiling.
"Thank you," I said, smiling gratefully.
She nodded, "Welcome."
I looked at ___, "What was he doing?"
"It's a trance they put their prey in before they strike. Sometimes they can do it even when their miles away."
Cold prickles went down my spine.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Since he's still fighting the-"
"Bloodthirsty vampire stuff."
"Yeah, that. He still gets the urge to bite. He was overwhelmed."
"How do you know?"
"He was at the city. He was given the cure. It works, but slowly."
I looked at him, "He was a test subject. And what about his hair? I mean, it's pretty weird for a guy to have long hair. . .right?"
"Yeah, but it grows out when the change. Gives 'em a more. .sinister look. That's as far a it grows. And for the white, it used to be white. The King of the Vampires is supposed to have white hair too. But much paler."
"How do you-"
"It was a big thing when they struck, so everyone had to learn this stuff."
"Ah."
___ walked over to us, finally centered.
"I must apologize."
"Yeah, as long as you don't get any further than that."
He grinned, showing his teeth once again. "I can't promise that."
I glanced a Jean who shrugged, "If I wasn't there, he would have bit you."
My smile faded. I could barely stand. I suddenly felt cold, alone.
"Oh, okay. That's-that's not a problem. Not-not at all."
I felt dizzy. Know I really didn't trust him.
