Bitten Wings 21 (I think...)
HA! I told you I’d post it. Here it is, and it might leave you confused. Be prepared! ;)
"WHAT!?" Jean screamed in my ear. I turned sharply to her, holding my ear, "Ow!"
She grinned, "What you get."
"Get for what exactly!?"
She shrugged, "I don't think I'll tell you."
"I-you know what!? Fine. Not a good time to be a pain anyways."
"ME!?"
I turn to Addere who seemed to be dying from laughter. I felt the heat rise to my face, glaring at him angrily.
"What do you have against the human race?"
"Everything. They banished my kind as soon as they found out that the cloning-"
"Cloning?? Woah, wait..this whole thing is because of a clone?"
He grinned, "Yes, and they messed it up. It used to be a simple animal clone, sheep for instance. But now, when they took the first humans for testing, it deformed us. The injection got infected. When we showed hostile behavior, they declared the project was ruined. They sent us out into the wild, with nothing. Nothing to live off of. Nothing. But they continued to test people, each time coming out with a different side effect. Some became deformed. Some became bloodthirsty. Some, some just simply died on the spot."
"How-how could they..?"
"Test us?" he laughed, "They continued to do it until a few years ago. Because they finally made the clone perfect. Now, they test humans on something else."
"You're lying!"
"No, I'm not. Ask anyone in our-"
"But that's your species! Not the humans!"
He grinned, his fanged teeth glittering in the light, "You can believe what you want, but even your sister would say yes to that."
"No.."
He laughed, "Yes."
My jaw started to shake, anger and betrayal rising up in me. My sister and I protected them for what? For them to make more infected? For them to destroy their own race??
"What are you going to do then?" Jean asked, frightened.
"I don't know. Why should I help either of you? Why not let both of you kill each other?"
Addere jumped into a response right away, "We can stop them with your help. We can stop them from destroy us, you, and themselves."
"But you want to kill them."
"I said destroy. Not kill. We could change them into one of us."
"Wouldn't you run out of things to drink then?"
"Animals do us just as well."
I bowed my head, sighing, then turned to Jean.
"And you?"
"Wait! I thought you bit her!" Addere said, stunned.
"I refrained. Now answer me, human."
Jean stared at me, anger rising up. "Haven't you protected us this whole time?"
"That doesn't matter anymore, Jean!"
"But we never harmed you!"
"You almost did!"
"ALMOST!"
"You would've if I didn't stop you!"
"How would you know?"
"Because I moved before they stabbed me!"
"But not all of us are like that!"
"From what I hear that's not true!"
"Then all you're hearing are lies!"
"And I'm hearing you telling me something about the human race!"
"BUT I'M NOT LYING!"
"How would I know!?"
"Because you can trust me!"
"Oh yeah, like I would do that! Trust you with the world out of all people! We'd be better off if those psycho freaks testing everyone ruled the world!"
Her mouth dropped in anger.
"So far you've said nothing to stop me from helping the vampires."
"Angel, you can't do this!"
"I can. And you can't stop me."
Jean grabbed my arm, staring into my eyes, tears streaming down her face. I couldn't help but feel some sympathy for her.
"What were you created for then, Angel? To destroy the world? Or save it?"
I hesitated on answering. What was I created for? I didn't know anymore. But how could I save a race that wants to destroy themselves? How could I help a bunch of bloodthirsty creations of the humans? I bowed my head in defeat. "I don't know anymore, Jean. I don't know what to do. Both sides tried to kill me.."
She looked at me, then let go of my arm. I stared at her curiously. She stared back intensely, "Choose, Angel. What race will flourish? What race shall die out? You hold the world in your hand, anything you do will affect us."
"Like that helps a bunch," I murmured under my breath. I weighed my options. So far the humans basically created vampires, vampires wanted revenge, and none of this should've happened but the humans wanted to push their limits. The vamps were simply clones of humans, but gone wrong and bloodthirsty. And me, of all people, had to decide if I helped the humans, the vamps, or just stood by and watched. And what of my sister? What would she have to say? I sighed, holding my head. The two people representing each race were shouting at me, giving me 'poof' to help their side.
"BE QUIET!!" I growled, lashing out my arms, and pushing them away. I turned to Jean again, "What would I have to fight for on your side? There's not a lot I can think of...actually, none at all. Except the fact Addere just tired to kill me.."
Addere glared at me, opened his mouth to argue, then was cut off by Jean.
"Angel, we made a mistake. You can help us fix it! You can help us make the vamps human again! You can stand by us and stop us from doing anything like this again."
"Like that sounds fun. Being the human race's nanny. What fun!" I growled sarcastically. Jean glared at me, but said nothing more. I sighed, and sat down, both sides glaring at each other.
"Don't do anything. I still need both of you alive if I have any questions."
Addere grinned darkly at Jean, stepping forward. "But humans walk among us. Not far.. You surely do not need this girl."
Jean looked horrified and stepped back. I got up, standing in front of her instinctively. "Don't you dare!"
"Oh, and is this your decision? I am hungry, but I guess your sister will have to do."
"She's your own kind!!"
He shrugged, "But not fully. She still has the Winged blood in her. Which does taste ever so good-"
I shook my head, cutting him off. "Stop it. STOP IT! If you are so confident with your evidence, why would you take my sister!?" I demanded.
He looked off guard, stepping back and thinking about it. Then he grinned, "It's a way of control. Look at you now, you've fought of your new instinct.."
I looked down. I understood. But, there seemed like there was something wrong still..I couldn't quite place it. A question buzzed in my head, and I sighed, asking, "How are you able to infect others?"
"Poison in our fangs." he answered simply, smiling, flashing his pearl fangs. I shivered, jaw trembling. I could only hold out so long when standing right next to a human. "Jean....move away...please..."
"Why?"
"JUST DO IT!" I growled, fists clenched, eyes closed. I felt her annoyance, and felt her presence move away. It was like seeing without having eyes. I knew exactly where everything was around me.
"Having trouble?" Addere's voice taunted.
"Yeah, I really want to drink your blood." I grinned, and looked at him. His face was serene; he wasn't worried. He knew I wouldn't hurt him because he had my sister. FREAK! Why couldn't it be simple!? Why couldn't I just have my answer, and know what I had to do!?
I groaned as the pounding in my head grew worse and I gripped the side of my head with my right hand. Images, thoughts, feelings, all hit me at once. I saw my sister's face when we were young. When we ran through the forest playing tag. I saw her again, when she sneered, and bit my neck. I saw her when she was screaming for help. Because she remembered. I had to help her. Then I saw what lay before me, the two decisions that lay ahead. I either became the human race's babysitter, or, I made only the race of vampires. And we all lived violent, killing and drinking blood. The thought made me shiver. How was I supposed to choose? I collapsed to my knees as another pounding wave went through my body, telling me I was hungry. Hungry for blood. My eyes clenched shot, and I could see Addere snickering. I could see Jean watching me in worry. Not for me, but for herself. Selfish human. Then I saw Drake. He trusted me. He was still lying on the ground, his breathing silent and slow. My shoulders shook. I saw him when he helped me. I saw him with surprise on his face, just seeing my wings. Look at me now, I thought to myself. An image of my own body flooded my mind. I was crouched on the ground, holding my head, eyes shut. My face was twisted with pain. The wings on my back were leathery, something like a bat's. They weren't the beautiful things I had taken for granted. I made my decision. My body shook with the slight fury that raged through me, and it clearing showed in my eyes as I stood and faced Addere. He grinned darkly at me, his white fangs flashing.
"Have you made your decision?" He asked, and low chuckled reaching his lips.
My eyes narrowed darkly, "Yes."
He raised an eyebrow, wondering why he had to pry. "And..?"
"Lead the way." I growled.
He laughed, and pointed to Jean. "Witnesses. Not acceptable."
I nodded, and turned on Jean. Her screams echoed in my head as I approached her.
She grinned, "What you get."
"Get for what exactly!?"
She shrugged, "I don't think I'll tell you."
