Zodiac Birthstones
There are varying versions of birthstones based on one's zodiac sign amongst different means of classification. Essentially, there are four main categories for this classification, the Gregorian Calendar, Modern birthstones that were adopted by the Jewelers of America and are followed throughout the United States, Australia and Thailand, the Mystical birthstones of Tibet, and the Ayurvedic birthstone list that comes form India. For authenticity, many jewelers also carry a color chart that you can check when making a purchase. The following is a list of traditional birthstones assigned to a particular zodiac sign.
Aries
The first sign of the zodiac, Aries the Ram, runs between the dates March 21st and April 20th, and is a fire sign. The gemstone associated with Aries is the bloodstone. It is also known as the heliotrope, and is classically a deep green color with specks of red, from where it gets its name, Bloodstone.
Taurus
The second sign of the zodiac, Taurus the Bull, holds the fort between the dates of April 21st and May 20th. It is an earth sign, associated with the Sapphire, a gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, different from the ruby in only color.
Gemini
The twins are the zodiac symbol for the third sign, Gemini. It is an air sign that runs between the dates May 21st and June 20th. Gemini is associated with the Agate, a variety of Quartz.
Cancer
The water sign Cancer, is symbolized by the crab, and all Cancerians are born between the dates
June 21st and July 20th. Cancer is the only sign that is associated with the same gemstone across the four classifications - the Ruby.
Leo
The zodiac sign and symbol associated with Leo is the majestic Lion, and this fire sign rules all people born between July 21st and August 20th. The birthstone for Leo is the Onyx, also a form of Quartz.
Virgo
The sixth sign of the zodiac Virgo, is an earth sign symbolized by the Virgin. Virgos are born between August 21st and September 20th and their gemstone is the Carnelian.
Libra
The Libran scales that symbolize this air sign are associated with all those born between September 21st and October 20th. The birthstone for Librans is the olive green Peridot.
Scorpio
Scorpio is the second water sign and the eighth in the zodiac. It runs between October 21st and November 20th, and is associated with the birthstone Beryl.
Sagittarius
The archer symbolizes the fire sign of Sagittarius, which runs between November 21st and December 20th. The birthstone for this sign of the zodiac is the Topaz.
Capricorn
Capricorn ends the calendar year, but is only the tenth sign of the zodiac, an earth sign. It includes all people born between the dates December 21st and January 20th. Capricorn is associated with the birthstone Ruby.
Aquarius
The symbol for Aquarius is the Water Bearer. It is an air sign that encompasses the dates January 21st to February 20th. The birthstone for Aquarius is the Garnet.
Pisces
The last sign of the Zodiac is the water sign Pisces. Symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions, Pisces runs between February 21st and March 20th, and is associated with the Amethyst.
