Biography of Omarion Grandberry
A talented R&B singer Omari Ishmael Grandberry, known by his stage name Omarian the world over, was born on November 12, 1984. Apart from his exploits as a singer, Omarion is also well known for his acting and dancing skills. The next few lines are a biographical tale of this versatile performer.
Omarion was spotted at a young age by a manager, Christopher B. Stokes, who took a liking to his vocal abilities. This led to forming a boy band B2K, which disbanded after being successful for few years.
Early Years
Born in California, Los Angeles, to Leslie and Trent Grandberry, Omarion took a liking to music at a very early age. At school he captained his football team and was also known for his slick dance moves. Although he dropped out of school midway, he embarked on a career in music. The smooth harmony singing that formed an integral part of the band B2K, helped him establish a solo career.
Career In Music
The first album that Omarion released as a solo artist was O, which was nominated for a Grammy in the R&B category. This album which was released in 2005 featured the hits I'm Tryna and Touch. Although the singles didn't receive significant airplay, the album was certified platinum in the U.S. The second album which Omarion released was 21, did surprisingly well, and reached the number one position of the Billboard 200. On this album he collaborated with artists such as Timbaland and Pharrell. The single Entourage, which sought the help of Eric Hudson in the production department, was a huge success. The album sold a massive 119,000 copies in the first week of its release.
Another song called Ice Box, received a significant amount of airplay and catapulted to the number 12 position on the Billboard Hot 100s. The album achieved gold status in the U.S. Omarion joined forces with hip-hop artist Bow Wow, and the result was a collaborative effort titled Face Off. This album which was produced by Jermaine Dupri, reached the number one and two spot of the Rap and R&B charts.
Career In Acting
The movie You've Got Served, which was based on groups taking on each other in a dance competition, exhibited Omarion's sleek dance moves, which were appreciated by teenagers all over the world. Another movie Fat Albert, in which Omarion dons the role of a school bully, was relatively well received. Towards the end of 2007, he displayed his acting skills in the thriller Somebody Help Me. This movie which was released exclusively on DVD, failed to attract viewers. Omarion has also made several appearance in a number of TV shows. The TV series One on One, in which Omarion made an appearance, garnered attention of viewers all over America. He also lent his voice for the character of Fifteen Cent in the animated movie, The Proud Family Movie, which was a rage among kids. His portrayal of a rapper, who gets involved with thugs, in the movie Feel The Noise, received rave reviews from critics.
Omarion loves to spend his time with friends. He is known to be a stickler for perfection in whatever he does. Even today he does a fine balancing act as a singer and an actor, mesmerizing audiences with his performances.
