John Cena is a professional wrestler, who is also a hip-hop musician and an actor. Currently employed with World Wrestling Entertainment, he has won the WWE Championship thrice and the World Heavyweight Championship twice in a career spanning less than a decade. Known by various nicknames like 'The Doctor of Thuganomics' and 'The Champ', Cena has a huge fan following throughout the world.

John Cena Biography

John Felix Anthony Cena was born on 23rd April, 1977, in Massachusetts, United States. He graduated in exercise physiology from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1998. After completing his education, he went on to pursue a career in bodybuilding, and at the same time doubled as a chauffeur for a limousine company.

Professional Wrestling
John Cena's career in professional wrestling started when he joined the 'Ultimate University', a California-based venture operated by Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW). His in-ring debut came on 16th February, 2000. In Ultimate Pro Wrestling, Cena used a semi-robotic character, for his in-ring role, with the ring name 'The Prototype'. Very soon in April 2000, he got his first taste of success, winning UPW Heavyweight Championship. In 2001, World Wrestling Federation signed him under a developmental contract, and sent him to their Ohio Valley Wrestling program, for training. In this period, in Ohio Valley Wrestling, Cena wrestled with the ring names 'The Prototype' as well as 'Mr P'. He won the OVW Heavyweight Championship on 20th February, 2002, and retained it for a period of three months.

World Wrestling Entertainment
Cena debuted in WWE on 27th June, 2002, in response to an open challenge issued by Kurt Angle. Although he lost the match, he was able to catch people's attention in his debut. In 2003, Cena sought the WWE Championship from reigning champion Brock Lesnar and came as close to becoming the #1 contender to the championship gold. Later in March 2004, Cena defeated Big Show to win the United States Championship at WrestleMania XX. The very next year, in WrestleMania XXI, John Cena won his first WWE Championship by defeating John "Bradshaw" Layfield on 3rd April, 2005. He went on to win this championship again in 29th January, 2006, in the Royal Rumble Pay-per-view and 17th September, 2006, at the Unforgiven pay-per-view. His first World Heavyweight Championship came at Survivor Series pay-per-view on 23rd November, 2008, when he defeated the reigning champion Chris Jericho. After losing the championship to Edge at No Way Out in February 2009, he went on to regain it by defeating him and Big Show in a Triple Treat match at WrestleMania XXV on 5th April, 2009.

Signature Moves
John Cena has evolved with time. His signature finishing moves are Attitude Adjustment, formerly known as the FU, and STF, formerly known as the STF-U. An attitude adjustment is a fireman's carry dropped into a powerslam; while STF or Stepover Toehold Facelock is a maneuver, wherein the opponent's ankle is placed between the wrestler's thighs and arms are locked around opponent's head to stretch his back, neck and knee. His trademark gimmicks, such as waving of hand in front of his face, and saying "You can't see me" or pumping up his sneakers before attempting the attitude adjustment, are quite popular among the WWE fans worldwide.

Hollywood Stint
Besides the world of wrestling, John Cena is also active in the world of films and music. He made his Hollywood debut in John Bonito's action flick The Marine, in 2006. Next, he was seen on the big screen in 12 Rounds, a 2009 action film directed by Renny Harlin. Both the films were produced by WWE Studios, a division of World Wrestling Entertainment. He made his debut in the field of music with an album titled You Can't See Me on 10th May, 2005. His musical performances in the wrestling arena have been earning him applauds since then.
