Billiards Tips and Techniques
Here are some tips and tricks which can help in improving the game and achieve maximum success in billiard.
- The most important thing/tip to be kept in mind is not changing the shot at the last moment. Sticking to the decision taken earlier is important. Level of concentration doesn't drop down, if this tip is followed.
- Holding the cue in the correct way is very important. The cue need to be gripped lightly with fingers of the power hand. The power hand is one with which force is applied during a stroke. The other one which is known as bridge hand should be held rigidly.
- Keeping the loop of forefingers (bridge hand) in contact with the cue should help in gaining a better control. Otherwise the shots tend to miss, resulting from slipping off the cue.
- One should aim only at a single spot of the object ball. Getting into the habit of changing the line of cue and shifting at the last moment should only create problems in aiming properly.
- Tip of the cue stick has a curved shape. Chalking the cue before every shot maintains the friction and therefore, the tip of cue doesn't slide/miss while the shot is played.
- Follow-through is very important while playing shots. Strokes played with a rigid hand tend to miss out on most of the instances. Instead of applying excess or undue force on the shots being played, one should allow the weight of cue to do the work.
- Movement of the cue should always take place in the direction parallel to the line of aim. If shots are played with an elevated cue butt, path of the cue ball gets curved and shots are missed.
- The jump, masse and other complicated shots need to be learned under the guidance of experts. Repeating the mistakes won't help in any way to proceed further. Practicing with the right technique is of utmost importance.
The beginners should first learn to stay calm. Billiards is a game of concentration and keeping one's head. The following tips can help beginners to improve quickly.
- The first and foremost goal for a beginner should be that of becoming more steady while playing shots.
- It is necessary to keep the gaze in a straight line without wavering from the path of cue ball. The focus should be on the object ball and not the cue stick.
- Attaining the right stance while playing shots is necessary to achieve success. The leg should be positioned in a parallel manner to the hand on its side (given that, it is a power hand).
- One should not move until the stroke is completed. Follow-through is an important thing for the shot to be played accurately.
