Dimensions of a Billiard Table

Billiards
Billiard sports, officially called cue sports is a set of several games, normally played with a cue stick, used to strike billiard balls. These balls are placed on a cloth covered table, bounded by rubber cushions and there are pockets on the table, which is where the billiard balls are aimed at. Initially, this was an umbrella term, until major subdivisions and region wise alterations and references did not change. These major subdivisions are what decide the billiards table measurements. These are the snooker, pocket billiards and carrom billiards. Billiards table size is different in all these 3 sub divisions.

Snooker Tables
Now snooker is a different ball game all together. The dimensions for billiards table for snooker when rounded up are 12 ft by 6 feet. Technically its 11 feet 8.5 inches by 5 feet 10 inches. However, you get smaller versions, which are 9 feet by 5 feet. The pockets of a billiards table employed for snooker measure 70 mm, that is 5.5 inches. There are 6 such pockets. Pocket Billiards
Pocket Billiard tables are also called popularly known as Pool tables. These come in 3 standard sizes, 7 feet, 8 feet and 9 feet. To talk about the surface area, the length of the 7 foot table is 76 inches long, while the width is around 38 inches. Similarly for the 8 foot table, the length goes up to 92 inches and the width is 46 inches. Finally, the 9 foot table's length is around 100 inches and the width is around 50 inches. The latter 2 - the 8 foot and the 9 foot table are the recognized dimensions for competitions. The slate bed of a pocket billiards table cannot be any less than 1 inch thick for a tournament. Other than that, it can be less than an inch.

Carrom Billiards Tables
These are needless to say, that they are in a rectangular shape. The playing area measures around 2.84 meters by 1.42 meters. In addition to that, there is a five meter allowance. Measured from the playing surface, the height of the table till the ground is approximately 80 meters. The slate bed of a Carrom Billiard table has to be at least 45 mm thick.
