Beyond the Woods
At one moment he was a distance away from me, and then suddenly I felt a hot source of breath upon my neck. Next thing I know a burning sensation is ripping through my skin, causing unbearable pain. "Stop!" I screamed, but my voice was muffled by the loss of blood from my apparent wound. I felt my body go limp as I sunk down to the floor.

I soared forward far away from the comfort of my pillow. That was an awful dream I thought. It felt so unbelievably real. The past week I've been awaking to these awful dreams, in a heap of sweat. While going through them I felt everything happening was reality. I glanced over to the side of my room looking for my clock. 4:43, well I might as well get up I said to myself, knowing it would impossible to fall back a sleep now.
Fifteen minutes later I was in my sports bra, a loose t-shirt, and some yoga pants, entering the forest trail behind my house. I loved coming back here ever since I was little, I kept to myself quit often and this was my favorite place to relax. I decided not to be a rebel today and stick to the trail, it was still dark and images from my dream continued to play out in my mind. About a mile out into the woods I reached the rapids that flowed miles throughout the state. It's funny how something so beautiful can be so deadly. The current could end almost anyone's life within a few minutes. I began traveling up stream when I heard a branch brake. To my surprise I turned around and found nothing. I am just paranoid I kept thinking. Until a few feet away I heard another branch snap. I whipped my head around and saw what seemed to be a shadow inching closer. Immediately I told my legs to book it the hell out of here as fast as I can. I started running fast; trying to keep my speed up; it's not always easy when wanting to slow down especially in my case being on the track team.
Minutes later I flew past the clearing and was moments away from the safety of my house. With all my force I pulled open the door and slammed it shut before I pressed my back up against it and slid down to the floor, breathing hard. "Jesus honey, you almost gave me a heart attack," my father said while walking in from the living room. "Oh sorry dad, I just got back from a run." "Well it looks like you've seen a ghost." He said. "What no, just a long run." I explained thinking it would be better not to tell my parents. We both walked into the kitchen while seeing my mother cooking breakfast.
Well cooking is an exaggeration, she was pouring cereal, and it's best to keep her away from an oven is all I'm gunna say. "Ava, your red and sweaty were you out in the woods again?" She asked for the millionth time in my life. "Yes mom, of course." "I don't like you going in there, they are dangerous and no place for a young woman to be spending all her time in." She pronounced. "Yeah okay mother, gotcha." I said ignoring the rest of her words while heading upstairs to get ready for school. "Honey, those woods are a part of her, she's only going to be here for a couple more years tell college let her have her freedom." My dad said. I could hear his voice while stomping up the stairs. Thanks dad I thought. I had about an hour before my best friend Emma came to pick me up, so I rushed to my room and got ready. Fifty nine minutes later I heard Emma honk the car as I rushed downstairs. "Bye parents of mine, see you later." I shouted. "By daughter of mine," dad replied. "John, don't encourage the girl." Mom said. "Relax hun." He replied. Before I was out the door my mom called, "Ava, don't forget you need to be home early tonight, Sean is coming home and we have our old friends coming to visit and you to need spend time trying to look presentable." She yelled. "Kay," was all I said before heading out.
"Hey girly ready for escuela?" Emma said. "Nope, I'm ready to go back home and sleep." I said. "Ah still having those bad dreams?" "Yep" I said as she backed out of our huge drive way. "Sean is coming home to visit," I say. "Really? I miss that hot, older brother of yours." Emma squealed. "Gross! But I miss him too, after going off to college we haven't heard from him that much and we aren't as close as we used to be." I complained. "Don't worry, things will brighten up. So want to come with me to Nick's party tonight?" Em asked. "Can't as much as I would love going to Nick my tormentor's house I have some company coming from out of town." I said sarcastically. Emma began pouting like always, "Fine. But you know he just likes you, that is why he's always picking on you." "Sure," I said doubtfully.
The guy has been driving me crazy forever. Ever since Sean, my overprotective big bro, left Jay has gotten worse. "Who is coming into town?" She asked. "Well honestly I don't know. My mom says that they are old family friends and that we all used to be so close before they moved away." "Hmm, is it just friends of your parents?" Emma asked. "My dad said that they have couple of older boys" I told her. "That might be fun, for all you know they could be a total babes." "Okay Emma, let's not get too ahead of yourself now. We don't need you on the prowl already for a new boyfriend or boyfriends." I said. "You're so funny Ava! You know one day your humor is going to turn around and kick you in the ass." She said. "Lets hope so," I joked. "Well if you get bored sneak out and come to the party. You know it will be fun." "I'll think about I," I said just as we pulled up to our High School.
After fourth period I walked to lunch and sat down at a table waiting for Emma. "Hey girl, have you heard the buzz going around school?" She asked while her and some groupies came and sat down. Emma was Mrs. Popularity. I didn't mind I knew she will always be my friend even if she does have a ton of others. "Nope, what is going on?" I asked not caring too much about gossip. My mind kept wondering off to the figure in the forest. I was definitely going back to investigate I wanted to know what it was or is. "The dish is that there's this sexy new group of guys at school. According to Ashley over here who apparently has a class with some of them (What a bragger), they are all brothers." "Oh cool," is all I said. "Is that all you are going to say 'Oh cool'? Ava come on this could be your chance to finally get a boyfriend." She leaned in only talking to me and whispered "You know the woods aren't always going to keep you happy. Eventually you will become bored and lonely." She stated. "Okay thanks favorite therapist of mine." I said. "Hey I am just trying to look out for you that's all." She replied. I knew it too. Emma only wanted the best for me. "Thanks deep down my conscious probably really does thank you." I said. "Haha see you after school loser." She said before running off just as the bell rang and lunch was over.
The rest of the day was boring until I arrived at sixth period. I was running late coming from the bathroom when the bell rang. Great now Mrs. Brown is going to yell at me in front of the class can't wait. As I stepped into the room everyone's heads turned towards me. I could not help but blush as I walked to the back and took my seat. "Oh Miss Jordan nice for you to finally join us." She said. "As I was saying class, before we were rudely interrupted, (I blushed once again) these are your new classmates." I looked up towards the front of them room and to my surprise found three gorgeous looking guys. Why did I not notice them while I came in? "This is Christian, Darren, and Lance." Mrs. Brown said. I could not believe my eyes. Amongst me were probably the three most attractive menI had ever seen. Lance who seemed to be the youngest one was tall but not as much as the other two. His blonde hair stood out from his brothers and his chocolate brown eyes looked almost editable.
Darren who I guess is the middle child had light brown hair with the dark blue eyes that reminded me of the ocean. Both of them were very fit and muscular. I wonder how long it will take Emma to try to get her hands on them. But Christian, the eldest, was the most appealing of all. His black hair went perfect with his crystal blue eyes. His eyes looked as if they had so much hidden meaning behind them. All the brother's eyes did. "Well you may find a seat; it's time to start class." There were exactly three seats left: One behind me and two to the right of me. Oh great now is the time where I wish I had more friends in this class to sit by. Now the three hottest guys I have ever seen will be forced to sit by me.
Christian took the seat behind me (AH!) while Lance and Darren took the seats to my opposite side. I was beginning to feel nervous, and for what reason? I sure didn't think I was anything pretty enough to marvel at, so why would I even think I had a chance with any of them? The rest of the class was boring and pointless. Or at least I thought it was, I was too busy letting my mind drift off. Before I knew it the bell rang and I rushed out of class needing to get to Emma's car before she left me. I saved up my money to buy this hot, fast motorcycle but it was a bit rainy today so that is why I needed Emma to take me. While exiting out of class I crashed into someone hard, so hard that all my books fell and scattered across the hallway. "Hey sexy thing," was all I heard before I looked up and saw Nick.
I started picking up my things while he just stood there and watched. "Thanks for the help," I said after getting but and restarting my way down the hall. "Not so fast honey, I wanted to know if you are coming to my party tonight." He said. "No I can't and wouldn't want to anyway," I replied. "He tried grabbing my waist and pulling me back but I was quick enough to escape. "You know you want me, and when you come I'll be waiting." He yelled as I was almost out of the building. "I guess you will be waiting your whole life then!" I shouted while starting to become angry. After getting out of the building I felt relived. That whole time I felt like someone was watching me and to be honest with everything happening and all it crept me out. "Come on Ava, you are going to be late for your date!" I heard Emma scream from her car. I got in and said, "It is not a date Em I don't even know the people." "What eve," she said before we drove off.
