Beyonce Tops Weekend Box Office with Obsessed

Beyonce, Idris Elba and Ali Larter are drawing audiences into Obsessed, a thriller about a wife who must fight off the woman who is stalking her husband.
If the plot of Obsessed feels familiar, then you've probably heard of a film called Fatal Attraction. The plot lines in this one are pretty similar, although the studios managed to slick this one up a bit and make the players a little younger and a little sexier than the original. I'm sure someone out there will claim that Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction is better than Ali Larter in Obsessed - and no argument here on the acting front - but Larter has the eye candy angle nailed down.

Because of the similarities in the plots and other factors, Obsessed was not screened for critics and was generally considered to be a weak re-make of Fatal.

But now that it dominated its first weekend at the box office, people are starting to take notice of the film that has the universally-adored Beyonce as a woman who is forced to fight for her man - literally. Audiences may be drawn to the idea of Beyonce and Ali Larter in a full-on brawl and the "crazy" that Larter has so effectively brought to some of her roles on the big screen and on television.

Obsessed brought in over $28 Million at the weekend box office and was able to take advantage of a relative lull in big-movie premieres, some of which are happening in the next few weekends. Friday will bring the anticipated launch of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a film with Hugh Jackman in the title role that is expected to have a huge run at the box office, given the success of the X-Men franchise to date.
