Betting Interleague Play in Baseball

Baseball bettors have been able ot wager on interleague play for 11 years now. The American League in recent years has cashed in for sports gamblers.
The American League is well on its way to capturing the season series from the National League for the eighth time in 11 years in 2007. The junior circuit came away with a 24-19 record through the first 43 games and picked up two of the three weekend sweeps. The biggest sweep of the weekend occurred in Detroit, with the Tigers gaining revenge for their World Series loss, by taking all three games from the falling Cardinals.

Teams that came in with a better record last weekend certainly enjoyed better success against their opponent, going 25-18. This mark was given a definite boost by going 10-5 on Sunday.

Playing at your own ball park represented a slim advantage, with home teams posting a 23-20 record over the past three days. Surprisingly enough, road teams came away with a slight 8 to 7 edge on getaway day.

Runs were a plenty in American League ball parks during the first two days, with many attributing the output to the designated-hitter. The OVER was 11-2-1 on Friday and Saturday, but leveled off with the UNDER going 6-1 on Sunday.

Games that were played in National League stadiums stayed on a more even playing field, with the OVER going 11-9-1.

With plenty of interleague baseball left to play this season, its also important to look at which teams excel in this format. Leading the way with 105 victories is the Oakland Athletics, who ended up taking two out of three from their across-the-bay-rival San Francisco. The New York Yankees follow closely behind with 104 wins, after salvaging a series-ending 6-2 victory over the New York Mets on Sunday. Rounding out the top five with interleague victories are the Chicago White Sox (101), Florida Marlins and Seattle Mariners at 99 apiece.
