Best Leg Exercises

Exercises to Tone Up the Legs

When we talk about leg exercises, the first two exercises which come to our mind are the squats and lunges. No doubt these are indeed top leg exercises, but other than these two, there are a number of exercise for great legs, which you practice, so that you are not bored.

Plies
It is one of the best exercises to tone legs. This exercise works the inner as well as outer thighs. They do not place a lot of stress on the joints. To do this leg toning exercise, stand with your feet a little more than shoulder width apart. Now turn your feet out, such that they are duck toeing out. Now slowly lower yourself, such that your thighs are almost parallel to the floor and hold the position for a few seconds. Slowly come back to the starting position and repeat the exercise for 10 to 12 repetitions for each set. You can do up to 3 sets of this exercise.

Step Ups
You will either have to use a bench to do this exercise or you can also do it on the staircase if you do not have a step. Contract the core muscles and step the right leg on the bench and immediately also step the left leg on the bench. Now bring the right leg on the floor followed by the left leg. Repeat 15 to 20 counts on each leg. With regular practice you can use a taller bench to do this calf exercise.

Single Leg Circle
This is one of the Pilates leg exercises. Lie on an exercise mat and place your hands next to your body such that the palms are facing downwards. Point both the feet and now lift the right leg off the floor and draw a big circle using the right leg in the air. Make sure your leg moves from the hip flexors and not just the feet. Trace the circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times anti-clockwise. Then change sides and repeat this best leg exercises for women and men on the other leg as well.

Walking
Walking is one of the good leg exercises. Most people underestimate the benefits of the walking exercise. You can do this exercise anywhere and anytime. It can also be done when you are traveling. As far as possible, try to push the thigh bone back, when you are walking, to derive more benefits from this exercise and also avoid injury. Do not forget to walk as fast as you can, so that the results will come by soon.

You can also do these exercises with weights as well. Before you do these best leg exercises, make sure you warm yourself up well. A warm up should be done at least for 10 to 15 minutes. After you are done with the exercises, make sure you do some stretching as well. Stretching will release the muscles and you will derive better benefits from these exercises.
