Best Horror Movies of All Time
Watching the best horror movies of all time, is an opportunity to test how strong you really are as a person and how much can you really handle! Here I present the top rated and best horror flicks which you must watch.

Top Ten Best Horror Movies of All Time
I suggest that you watch these movies in broad daylight, as if you watch them at night, you can forget about sleeping altogether. Even waking up and going in to the kitchen for a glass of water will be a scary experience at night. See to it that you have somebody with you while you watch them! Watch at your own risk.
There are many ways in which one can rate horror movies. There are people called 'Film Critics', who somehow, even without having made a film themselves, are supposed to know more about them! Personally, I think that what makes a great horror movie is the surprise element, subtle creeping background horror, suspense, excellent sound effects and of course a great storyline which explores the primal fears of humanity. Here is my personal selection of the top ten best horror movies of all time. What appeals to me as a horror flick may not appeal to you as it's a matter of taste. Nevertheless, I can assure you that these ten movies won't disappoint you as horror flicks.
The Exorcist
This movie directed by William Friedkin is based on the demonic possession of a girl and an exorcism performed by two priests to save her soul. It has all that you want in a good horror flick. The possession of an innocent girl by the devil himself has its share of irony and surprise. It's a must watch!
The Shining
This Stanley Kubrick film is a psycho horror masterpiece. A writer (played by Jack Nicholson) spends time as a caretaker in a haunted hotel. Tormented by ghosts, he loses it and tries to kill his own wife and son. The very fact that Jack Nicholson stars in it, makes it a must watch!
Psycho
The film directed by one of the greatest directors in Hollywood, Alfred Hitchcock is credited with being the first modern horror film, that went beyond conventional stereotypes! The story of a murderer Henry Bates, a lonely motel keeper, who has 'Mommy' problems, makes for a great subtle horror flick. Once you watch this one, it will be hard to forget Henry Bates and you will think twice before checking into a deserted motel!
The Sixth Sense
One of the best modern horror and suspense flicks, Manoj Night Shyamalan's 'Sixth Sense' is a twisted ghost story of a child who sees dead people and the attempts of a psychologist to help him.
Alien
A science fiction horror film, Alien is a creature flick with a difference. It is about what happens with the human crew of a spaceship which lands in an alien world.
The Silence of The Lambs
Anthony Hopkins' masterful performance as Hannibal Lecter, the brilliant sociopathic and cannibalistic serial killer who helps an FBI agent in finding another serial killer on the loose, while escaping himself. It's a masterfully creepy film.
The Wicker Man
An intelligent horror movie, 'Wicker Man' stands out in its originality. The story deals with the investigation of the disappearance of a person, by a police officer, finding himself among a ritualistic cult who practice human sacrifice!
Halloween
This horror movie was John Carpenter's debut as director in the horror genre. The story is about a sadistic serial killer on the loose. This one too is a must watch.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Chilling is the word that comes to mind when I think of this movie. This movie about the tormented ghost of a psychopath who kills children in sleep, will definitely make your skin crawl!
Rosemary's Baby
This movie is a classic horror film. An unsuspecting couple fall into the hands of a couple who are leaders of a witch cult. The woman Rosemary gets impregnated by the devil himself. A nerve wracking horror movie and a must watch!
This is my personal list of the best specimens from the horror genre. Every one of them explores different themes and primal fears of the human mind. These may or may not be the best horror movies ever made. The only way to decide is to watch them! I dare you!
