In the world of gaming, the word 'DSiWare' has been making quite a lot of buzz over the last few years. No prize in guessing that it has something to do with Nintendo DSi - the hand-held video game console marketed by Japanese multinational Nintendo, but what exactly is DSiWare all about? For those who don't have any idea about it, it is a service which helps you download video games and apps on your Nintendo DSi console.

Nintendo DSi

The Nintendo DSi is a seventh generation hand-held game console which launched by Nintendo in different parts of the world between 2008-09. The third iteration of Nintendo DS made its debut in North America on 5th April, 2009, as a direct competitor to Sony PSP. Such was the popularity of this console, that more than 20 million units of the same were sold the world over within 2 years of its launch. Armed with 2 ARM architecture processors, this console has a 256 MB internal flash memory SD/SDHC card for storage. The Wi-Fi connection gives you access to DSi Shop from where you can download as many games as apps you want. A new version of the DSi - the Nintendo DSi XL, which was slightly larger than the original console was launched in 2009-10.

Nintendo DSiWare

As we mentioned earlier, DSiWare is service which gives DSi users the ability to download apps and games on their console. This is somewhat similar to Wii's Shop Channel and WiiWare from where you can download Wii games for the Nintendo Wii game console. While most of these games come for free, you will have to pay a stipulated fee to download others. These games, as well as the apps that it has to offer, are specifically designed for Nintendo DSi. Like we said earlier, you can get these games in exchange for Nintendo Points. In order to get these points, you will have to redeem a Nintendo Point Card or you can directly purchase these points through your console. Once you have enough points, you can go ahead and purchase the DSi games which you want.

Best DSiWare Games

Basically, Nintendo DSiWare games are smaller than those games available on WiiWare. You can access them from the main menu on your DSi. On the basis of its size and features, this game can cost anywhere between 200 to 1000 Nintendo Points or US$2 - US$8. The fact that Nintendo 3DS has backward compatibility with Nintendo DS series means that these games can work fine with 3DS as well.
