Proteins: Proteins are necessary in our diet because it helps in burning the excess fat present in the body. Hence, protein foods should be present in every meal of the person. Foods that contain proteins include fish, turkey, lean cuts of meat, chicken, milk, eggs, etc. Other than this, consuming foods like seeds, beans, nuts, etc., also are good source of protein.

Carbohydrates: Many people stay away from carbohydrates because it is believed that they are the main cause of weight gain. However, people do not know that it is through carbohydrates that the body acquires most of the energy required for its functioning. There are two types of carbohydrates, mainly complex and simple, and it is the simple carbohydrates that are not good for the body. Complex carbohydrates include foods like brown rice, vegetables, fruits, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, beans, sweet potatoes, whole wheat bread, etc. Simple carbs are present in food stuffs like white rice, pasta, white bread, white potatoes, etc., and these foods should be avoided completely.

Fats: You may have been recommended the fat free diet by many people because fat contains too many calories and can cause health problems if consumed in excess. However, fat should be an important part of our diet because it contains various health benefits. Like carbohydrates, fats can also be divided into good and bad fats. Junk and processed foods contain bad fats, i.e. saturated and trans fat and should be totally avoided. On the other hand, fats present in olive oil, fish, nuts, etc., are good fats or also known as unsaturated fats, which is an essential requirement for the body. However, the daily fat intake should not be more than 30% of the total food intake.

Apart from these, it is also important to include foods that are high in fiber, because even a small amount of fibrous food makes the person feel that he has eaten a lot, due to which he would not indulge in over eating, thus consuming low calories. One also should avoid eating foods that are high in sodium and refined sugars while trying to lose weight.

Many times, people who are vegetarians are not able to come up with a diet plan because most of the diets contain meat products. Nevertheless, vegetarians can follow the vegan food pyramid, because it is one of the best vegetarian diet to lose weight and also provides all the essential nutrients.
