Best cities to celebrate New Year's eve in the US
"Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."
―Oprah Winfrey
A new year is all about new beginnings and second chances, isn't it? But before we get to it, there's always that one last shot we get at insanity, idiocy, and limitless revelry.

That, my friends, is what we call New Year's Eve. Partying, rejoicing, feasting, and carousing is in order, as we list out the best cities for New Year's Eve 2013 across the United States.

There is no dearth of party destinations all across the United States; and when you are with your favorite people, the place can simply take a back seat.

However, having said that, these cities have a real standing when it comes to partying, right from being straight-jacketed, to way out wild.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas
The city of Las Vegas has this year-long party going on, but New Year's Eve is when it reaches its tempo.

Those looking to party indoors, may head to any of Sin City's famous hotels and casinos, where you're sure to catch some fabulous entertainment and performances. So take your pick, be it the Bellagio | 3600 S Las Vegas Blvd, or the MGM Grand | 3799 S Las Vegas Blvd, or perhaps The Venetian | 3355 S Las Vegas Blvd, or anywhere else; good times are always guaranteed when you're in Vegas.

Do check out
The New Year's Eve street party on the super-iconic Las Vegas Strip is absolutely humongous. The Strip stays closed to vehicular traffic (but of course), with people spilling on to the boulevard like there's no tomorrow. Catch your spot in the middle of the street to get your Instagram-worthy pics of the superb fireworks that light up the desert sky at midnight.

New York, New York

New York City
Man, if there ever was a competition to decide the best New Year's Eve bash in the world, New York City would be a winner, hands down. The sheer magnitude of the revelry in New York's Times Square is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Ushering the new year in New York City is perhaps the one common item in every party animal's bucket list.

The highlight
The Ball Drop ceremony is, of course, the highlight of the evening here in Times Square, with about a million people in attendance, along with over a billion people watching it on live television worldwide. As soon as the clock strikes midnight, a shower of confetti rains over the crowd, accompanied by a prolonged burst of firecrackers. The ball drop event itself has a rich history of its own, and completed 100 years in 2007. So, if you wish to be a part of the most iconic party in the world, you know where you're supposed to go.

Honolulu, Hawaii

Relaxed and laid-back, Hawaii is where you come when you want to get away from it all. But, don't let its tropical charm fool you. Hawaii maybe quite the sedate state, but come New Year's Eve, and it can teach Lindsay Lohan a thing or two about how to party.

The best party
The Sheraton Waikiki | 2255 Kalakaua Ave will be hosting the largest and most happening party of 2013 in Honolulu, with fireworks, pyrotechnics, and lots more entertainment to look forward to.

If you fancy a Hawaiian cruise, you'll have plenty of options, provided you've booked them in advance. Besides this, there are several private beach parties to keep your spirits high throughout the night as well.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans
You think of Mardi Gras, the moment anyone mentions New Orleans, so it's almost guaranteed that you'll find a one-of-a-kind celebration here. The firework displays here are reputed to be among the best in the country.

Don't miss
Jackson Square is the epicenter of the street party in New Orleans. Just as New York has its famous ball drop, New Orleans gives you the Fleur-de-Lis that is dropped at midnight in the heart of Jackson Square. This is followed by a brilliant display of fireworks over the Mississippi River, visible from the French Quarters.

Indoor parties here are all about what New Orleans stands for―beautiful music, happy people, and booze that never stops flowing.

Miami, Florida
Hip, hot, and happening, Miami never needs a reason to party. If you're a hardcore party person, the only place you should head to is South Beach.

Hot places
If clubbing is what's on your mind, a few places to visit include Mynt Lounge | 1921 Collins Ave, or Nikki Beach Club | 1 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, or even Mansion Nightclub | 1235 Washington Ave, Miami Beach.

There will be a fabulous party at Fontainebleau | 4441 Collins Ave, Miami Beach this year. Prior bookings are advised, so check out their website for more details.

Even otherwise, the city of Miami offers endless options for partygoers on new year's night. The whole city wears a festive look, and everywhere you go, you're sure to find some celebration going on for sure.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City
Now let's head to a destination where partying isn't the sole highlight. Salt Lake City's EVE festival is a three-day event that will include fine arts performances, live local music, dance parties, DJs, film screenings, laser shows, art installations, kids' activities, storytelling, and a spectacular midnight fireworks show on New Year's Eve, scheduled at venues spread throughout the city.

Here's a tip
If you're looking forward to some family fun, the EVE festival is just right for you. Passes for the festival are on sale on their website, and at the venues as well. You can also avail package deals that combine hotel stays along with the EVE festival passes.

San Diego, California

San Diego
From picture-perfect family moments to some hardcore partying, the city of San Diego plans to cater to every type of celebration.

SeaWorld San Diego | 500 Sea World Dr will have an early fireworks show at Mission Bay; perfect for families with young children. If family fun is not your scene, you may choose to buy a ticket to party aboard a luxurious yacht, and go sailing on New Year's Eve.

Watch out for
Big Night San Diego New Year's Eve is hosting their 10th anniversary gala at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront | 1 Park Blvd. It is an all-inclusive event that promises some high-voltage entertainment, combined with free-flowing drinks and food.

Austin, Texas

A tad unconventional, Austin may not immediately feature in a list of party towns. But yes, it does have its charms, since the celebrations here aren't too in-your-face, as they could be in New York or Miami.

Simply unmissable
This year, Willie Nelson & Friends are scheduled to play at the Moody Theater | 310 W Willie Nelson Blvd. The legendary country singer will be accompanied by Delbert McClinton and Glen Clark on stage. We need not mention that the tickets are flying off as we speak.

Besides, you're sure to have the regular parties, firework displays, and entertainment at venues across town; all with a touch of Austin's flavors.

San Francisco, California

San Francisco
Clubbing, cruises, beach parties, street parties―you name it, and they have it here in San Francisco. And what's more, it comes sans the shimmer and glimmer of neighborhood LA. Parties here are all about having fun, without paying too much attention to being glamorous.

Rock the night away at
That said, the city's massive gay community brings in the glamor factor heavily, with the most awesome burlesque shows you'll ever see. The best fireworks show can be seen along the Embarcadero between Mission and Howard street at midnight. In addition, prominent hotels like Westin St. Francis | 335 Powell St, along with JW Marriott | 515 Mason St will also be hosting some fantastic parties.

Chicago, Illinois

The Windy City is bound to be freezing around New Year's Eve, but that won't take the heat out of the celebrations that are lined up.

The place to be
The Navy Pier | 600 E Grand Ave decks up for the occasion, and certainly doesn't disappoint. The Lakeview Terrace at the Navy Pier is the venue for the Resolution Gala, an event full of good food, excellent music, and all-night revelry. Not to mention, the stunning views of Lake Michigan and the city's skyline are an added advantage.

Besides the Gala, there is no dearth of party venues across Chicago, with live music and DJ beats pouring through the streets from hotels, restaurants, and nightclubs.

And on that note, we bid you farewell, and hope that you make it to any of these fabulous destinations this New Year's Eve. Have a rocking celebration!
