Being Inspired To Write Again: Once A Writer Always A Writer

Are you experiencing writer's block lately? Brief article explains what you can do to get your muse back.
Poetry, short stories, plays, articles, blogs, diary entries, letters to friends, you use to do all of these things, what happened?

When you look back on the past and saw yourself writing your best work, what was your mood like? Were you in love, excited, upset, confused, bitter, angry or just a combination of all these emotions? How would you describe your personal and professional life at the time? Who were you spending the most time? What were you doing or not doing that allowed you time to write? What or who were your inspirations to write about?

It is important to ask yourself all of these questions and answer them. People don’t just stop writing, there are various things that happen in one’s life that begin to block his or her mind from thinking creatively. Some writers feel inspired to write when they are under pressure. They use writing as a way to escape their current reality. Other writers feel moved to pen their thoughts when they are experiencing a great emotional high such as when they are most in love, angry, sad or excited.

Lately, you may not have had anything occur in your life or notice anything in the lives of those around you that made you feel inspired to write. It doesn’t mean your gift is lost forever, it only means that you aren’t feeling motivated. A writer’s mind isn’t programmed like an athlete or military officer who just needs someone in authority to coach them into performing a task. The writer’s world is very much controlled by the writer. He or she is in control of the department of motivation. There is nothing anyone can say to make he or she set down at a desk and pick up a pen. He or she must make up in his or her mind to stare at that white piece of paper everyday until something is written. For some writers that is a challenge. They are too busy thinking about other things they could be doing which is only a classic case of procrastination.

The key to writing again is to at least make the attempt to write without worrying about how good or bad your work maybe during that time of inspiration, also known as, your muse. Every writer needs that moment of silence. The time to empty out whatever is taking up your ability to think. Writers who are busy doing everything, but writing will never get to do it, if they don’t make the time to just sit and be quiet. Turn off the cell phone, close the blinds, stop watching TV or listening to the radio (at least for a moment.) These things have not contributed to your feeling inspired lately; therefore, why continue to use them?

This is your time to disappear from the earthly world for a time and get in touch with your spirit world. Your inspiration lies within your soul. Take this time for yourself everyday. Reconnect with who you are and find out what your spirit has been trying to communicate to you. There are reasons why your gift of writing has simply took a break. It may be that this was the only way to call your attention to some troubled areas of your life that need correcting. Remember to revisit your past personal and professional lives that inspired you to write your best work. Make a plan of what you will need to do in your present life to feel motivated again. Most of all, don’t invite or re-invite negativity into your life although it may have motivated you in the past. Oftentimes the impact it had back then on your life will not have the same effect in your current life. Find a positive replacement. After you read this rather than put it off, attempt to follow the advice and see what happens over time.
