Being Different - The New Fashion

Being different is one of the most difficult things we face everyday. In this article I give my view on being different and of course unique.
Everyday all around the world people are judged based on their differences and because they aren’t classified as ‘normal’. On the first day of school the bell rings for break and the new kid at school stands with their lunch tray looking around for a familiar face of a student that is similar to who they are defined as, so they can finally blend into the crowd instead of being an outcast because they do not belong to any group of people at school. Every child that is born into the world will be different to another child that is born due to the genetic make-up of their parents. Their tastes, features and character are dependent on their inherited characteristics.

I have attended several schools and before I embarked on a new journey at one of my many schools, I gave myself the same pep talk every time, "You can be anyone you want to be at this school. You can be different." Now I have finished my grade twelve examinations and only now do I realize that all I ever needed to be, was myself.

After seven years of moving around, I finally settled at a school and stayed there for three years where this year I finished my school career. Throughout my life so far I have met many people of different religions, backgrounds, races and nationalities. I have come to find that all of us are different but that is far from being bad. We all have something to bring, a different special air to us that makes us unique. Imagine life without the math whizz in class, who happens to answer the problem on the board before anyone has to sweat in front of the class trying. The popular girl who all the boys are after. The nice girl who spoke to you on the first day of school. Your crazy friend that reminds you all the time to "live a little".

Everybody we meet in life has a purpose and has had an effect on our life or has improved it whether it may have been big or small.
A good self-esteem is a rare trait to find in most people and everyday someone’s self-esteem is shattered because of what someone has said to them. Remember it is easy to forgive but not easy to forget, what you say to someone can affect them for a long time and sometimes it can affect them indefinitely. Before you turn what make someone unique into something that is ‘wrong’ or ‘weird’ about them consider this: Would you like to be treated that way? Would you like to be ridiculed about something that you do or say just because it is who you are? No you wouldn’t because no one wanted to feel that way.

Religion is one of the main topics that people are questioned about. Religion may be a major role in a person’s life. But it is not the only thing a person is as with race it is just some people’s skin color is lighter or darker than others. Our accents are different. We dance differently. Dress differently. In the end we all have a beating heart. We will all die someday. We all feel heartache and happiness and sadness and we are all different. The most important thing that everyone tends to forget is that WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS. One of my friends always used to say, "If we were all the same, life would be boring." It is so true. I wouldn’t want to be defined as 'clumsy' because I drop a mug on the floor when I pack away the dishes. "A 'nervous wreck', because I am anxious about my interview." 'Weird', because I am different. All I want to be defined as is ME and that’s all you should be trying to be too. As the saying goes, "Accept no one’s definition of your life but only what you define yourself as." Whoever is reading this YOU ARE SPECIAL remember that.
