Beginner's Faith

The One thing in this world that every person needs is faith…even though many times people can be found that claim that they do not have faith in anything, which is simply not true, everybody believes in something. When we look at faith from a Christian standpoint we can find some very interesting things about it, for one it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, that it is a work of God.

"Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."John 6:29

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." Ephesians 2:8

We can see that besides the fact that it is a fruit of the spirit it is also a work done by God himself, it is something that we most probably would not have if God did not give it too us.

"But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."Romans 10:8-11

Faith is something that has to come from the heart, it cannot be superficial; it cannot be a show that we put on for other people to see. It is the work of God, and true faith is the fruit of the Holy Spirit but it is something that has to be real in our lives or else that little show we put on is all for nothing…

What is it that wakes us up and starts those first little stirrings of real faith? What is it that makes us start to believe for real?

"And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name." John 20:30-31

"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word." John 17:20

"And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe." Acts 15:7

There are a couple Bible verses above that tell us exactly what wakes that first little bit of faith up…the first is the Scriptures. In other words the Bible, the words of life, the second is preaching, going to Church and hearing a sermon, or even hearing a street preacher. The third is the Gospel…hearing, hearing and hearing it; there is a verse that says that faith comes after hearing the word of God.

Now I have a question for you, did you catch the fourth part of this beginner’s faith? It might not be so obvious but it does tell us what or who this faith is directed at…it is all pointed to the Lord Jesus Christ, believing on Him that you might have life through His name, that is all it takes you know. Just a little bit of faith, putting away all that stuff you learned in school and in life itself and just letting that little bit of faith take root, that little bit of faith that God wants to give you so that you might have life through Jesus Christ.

Take a look at the verses form Romans 10, there is all you need to know to be able to get that life that is promised…it is a gift of God; it is through that little bit of faith that springs up in our hearts at the hearing of the gospel and now you’ve heard that message, Jesus came and died for you, He wants to save you, it is a free gift of God…and now what will you do about it? Will you reject Him?
