Before You Create The Perfect Playroom

There are a few things you should at least consider before buying a single piece of child furniture for a new playroom.
Playrooms are great for parents and children alike as they provide a place for kids to go and have a great time all in the confines of home. Parents love them for the same reason as well as having a natural place where toys belong leaving the rest of the house to be toy-free; at least that is the intent. There are so many fantastic ways to design the perfect playroom but a successful result can be as much a part of what you do before to get the room ready as it does with how you design and furnish the room. By doing a few simple things up front, you will be much more pleased with the end result.

First of all, look at the carpet. The carpet in a playroom is going to get a lot of use. There is a good chance that a new carpet would be part of your playroom design and if it is, look at purchasing a flatter carpet such as burber. This is going to make it much easier to vacuum than a thicker higher carpet. Also, make absolute sure that you get it "scotch-guarded" from stains. This is an absolute must. If you have kids than you probably already know that this investment will pay for itself.

The next thing you should at least consider before furnishing the room is a fresh coat of paint on the walls. We recommend and have used the Dupont Everclear. Speaking from experience, cleanups including chocolate milk and crayons are a breeze once they have been painted with this type of paint. Of course, it costs a little more than your typical gallon of paint but we believe it is worth the investment. There is nothing more aggravating than looking at a wall 3 months after it was painted only to have a crayon mark across it.

Our last recommendation of things to do to your playroom before you furnish it is child proof the room. Outlet covers and window latches are a great start and with furniture in a room it is easy for an adult not to notice that outlet behind a chair. But its amazing how quickly a child can find it. On the topic of outlets another need and relatively inexpensive thing you can do to a playroom if you can’t do it yourself is to lower the light switch to a child’s level.

In summary, there are a lot of things you can do to design the perfect playroom and after speaking with hundreds of parents on their ideas, I can guarantee that there are an infinite number of ideas. However, ensuring you are pleased with the end result necessitates at least thinking about the above things before purchasing the first piece of Child Furniture for the new room.
