Becoming a Healthier Eater

Healthy eating is about learning some nutrition basics and incorporating them in a way that works for you.
Eating healthy doesn't mean eating the same thing over and over again. It is about eating balanced and moderate meals at least three times per day. Healthier eaters do not limit themselves to just one specific food group.

You need to become both educated and smart about what you put into your body. It is not about learning to calculate fat grams, counting calories or reading labels. It is about knowing what foods will provide you with the nutrients your body needs to stay both strong and alert. Healthy eaters become aware of what they are eating and know the effects that it will have on their bodies.

Eating healthier is a way of life and should be done to enrich your body and your life. If your thinking about improving your life, eating healthier is a great place to start. It can make life more rewarding for yourself and those around you.

Healthy eating should be a goal for everyone; however, it can be very hard. You need to start by making the right food choices. Your choices are vital to the your results when it comes to eating healthy. Here are some healthy food choices to consider when starting a healthy eating regiment.

Vegetables

Start by eating the dark vegetables like broccoli and spinach. Make sure to keep a variety of options and eat between 2-3 cups of them each day. Beans, carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers are also good vegetables for starters.

Fruits

Try and eat around 2 cups of fruit each day. There are a variety of ways to get your fruit, such as fresh, frozen, canned, or even dried fruit. Fruits have many important benefits to our health, and can have an extremely positive impact on your body. They have been found to provide increased energy, and weight loss. They are be very delicious and easy to add to our daily diet.

Grains

You need to eat 6-7 ounces of grains per day. Good sources of grains are whole grain cereals, breads, rice, crackers, and even pasta. Others foods that contain grains are and foods made from wheat, rice, oats or corn.

Dairy

2-3 cups of milk daily should be ideal. Try to choose milk products which are lower in fat. If you don't like milk or can't have it, look for lactose free products or other fortified foods and beverages. Cheese is another good source of calcium.

Protein

Eat 5 ounces of lean protein a day. Always try to bake, grill or broil it as this will help to remove the fat. Other good sources of protein are fish, beans, peas, and nuts.

Choosing your foods wisely and watching what you eat can improve your health. At any age, eating healthy will help your body and health stay fit and functioning the way it was meant to.
