In recent times, beauty salons have been doing good business as people are becoming increasingly conscious of their looks and external appearance. Here are some creative ideas for beauty salon floor plans which could be helpful to present and future beauty salon owners.
Beauty Salon Floor Plans
The salon industry has witnessed a steady growth in the past decade or so. With society in general becoming quite beauty conscious, visiting hair and beauty salons has become more of a fashion statement rather than a necessity. Salon owners aren't complaining though, and why would they? The cash registers have been ringing non-stop as people continuously pour in to avail of a host of beauty, skin and hair care treatments. The different types of services that a beauty salon commonly provides are:
  • Facials
  • Waxing and threading
  • Bleaching
  • Hair trimming and styling
  • Hair coloring and highlighting
  • Hair and scalp treatment, shampooing and conditioning
  • Manicures and pedicures, nail care
  • Special services like oil massages, spa and sauna therapy, body scrubs, herbal and ayurvedic skin care, etc.
Guidelines for Preparing Beauty Salon Floor Plans

While starting a new beauty salon business, the first thing you should do is decide upon your space requirements. If you happen to have a large enough room in your house, then you could go ahead with a home-based beauty salon. Otherwise, you will inevitably have to get hold of a suitable commercial place in a nearby locality. While selecting a place for your beauty salon, consider the customer occupancy, number and type of services offered, the number of attendants that you plan to have, and calculate the space requirement accordingly. 100 sq feet per attendant is the usual norm, however, you can adjust it according to your budget and other constraints.

Since a beauty salon normally offers a wide range of services, it is quite important that its interior layout and design be done thoughtfully, and in a properly planned manner. For this purpose, you should seek the help of an experienced architect or an interior designer, and jointly prepare a detailed beauty salon floor plan. You could start off by conveying your planned concept and intended services to the interior designer, who would then come up with a rough prototype of a layout design for the beauty salon. Once you are satisfied with the outline of the floor plan, you could go ahead with preparing the final layout design. Typically, you should consider the following aspects while preparing the beauty salon floor plan:

Components of a Beauty Salon Floor Plan
  • Reception and Waiting Area: This is an integral part of your salon as this is the first thing that customers will notice when they walk into it. It should be comfortable and should have a warm and welcome feel to it, which will instantly put your customers at ease.
  • Separate Hair Cutting and Coloring Sections: You should ideally separate the hair cutting and coloring sections, and keep them at a certain distance from each other. Investing in some comfortable, yet affordable arm chairs for these sections will benefit both your customers, as well as your attendants.
  • Adjacent Manicure and Pedicure Areas: These sections should be close-by or adjacent to each other, from the point of view of common storage compartments, customer comfort and attendant convenience. Also, wash basins should be present within close reach to avoid discomfort and inconvenience.
  • Separate Spa and Massage Rooms: If you intend to offer spa, sauna and body massage services, then you should ideally have separate rooms for each facility in a corner of the salon. They should be fully-covered for the sake of customer privacy and should be positioned close to the restroom and the shower enclosure.
In addition, you can enhance the ambience and the overall feel of the beauty salon by placing scented candles and fragrances at suitable places. Using these beauty salon floor plans, you can design your new salon within no time.
