Beauty in Bloodshed - Part Seven
The great escape! Please comment your thoughts!
Anna-Lee:
Chris bolts straight up on the bed. Confirming my suspicion that the sirens aren't just hallucinations. I sit up next to him. The fear consumes me. My heart races again as if I just snorted another line. Yet I am paralyzed in fear. I don't move. I hold my breath. The only thing moving is my thudding heart. I glance over at Chris. It appears he is in the same state as me. Paralyzed. I manage to regain my motion.
"What do we do Chris?" my voice comes out in a half whisper. For what seems like a lifetime he doesn't respond. He is breathing hard.
"Grab all our shit." his voice sounds like mine. "NOW. I'll find us a way out of here." He regains his sanity and jumps up rushing around the motel room like a chicken with its head chopped off. I stand. My knees are shaking. I gather up our stuff and throw it into our backpacks. I hear the sound of tires on gravel just as I am finished with our things. Chris comes rushing out of the bathroom. He is sweating and shaking.
"The bathroom window opens." he motions with his hand for me to follow him. I get up with backpacks in hand.
I hear whispered voices on the other side of the door. I ensure my gun is in my pants and I follow Chris quietly into the bathroom. There is a knock on the door. I toss the backpacks out the window.
"Hurry up before they come around back." Chris whispers to me. He grabs me and shoves me up out the window. I drop down to the ground, landing on my ass. I stand up and Chris drops down next to me, landing on his feet. He quickly grabs the backpacks and we head off into the woods. I hear footsteps and voices coming around the back of the building. They know where we are.
"Move Anna, quick and quiet." Chris hisses at me. He picks up his pace.
I struggle to keep up with him. He moves through the brush swiftly. He is like a deer or something. I break branches under my feet and stub my toes, tripping over branches on the ground. Suddenly Chris stops. He ducks behind a large tree and crouches. I stop and kneel down beside him. He is quiet. I am panting. He puts his hand over my mouth and we listen. There are branches cracking, coming towards us. He pulls his gun out of one of the backpacks. I follow suit and pull mine out of my pants. We'll show them to fuck with us. I sneak over to the next tree and crouch behind it. My gun ready. I look at Chris. He looks at me. He smiles at me like the devil would smile. It is beautiful.
Chris:
I can't wait to see Anna in action. It will be breathtaking. She is the angel of war. Beautiful and dangerous all at once. She is crouched with her gun ready. Her hair is messy, she is covered in blood. She is amazing. I look out through the bush. I see the cops. There are six of them. They are spread out, guns drawn. Attempting to be stealthy. Lacking in that department. They crack branches under their feet and push branches out of their way. I motion for Anna to stay put. She nods. I crawl through the underbrush. Barely making a whisper of a sound. I am trying to flank the group of cops. Get around them. Get the jump on them. This has to work. There are six of them. Two of us. I didn't tell Anna this, but we are asking for death doing this. We were fucked from the moment I heard the sirens. I just didn't tell her.
I've done it. I flanked the cops. I could probably have used my skill to escape. But Anna would never had made it. And besides this is gonna be more fun anyway. I can see Anna from where I am. I nod at her. Her instincts are good. I'm sure she'll figure out what to do when the time is right. I watch the cops from my vantage point. They are moving in together. They must be trying to talk strategy. Track us through the dense forest. They come together. They are together. Gathered in a circle. Backs to me. It's now or never.
