Beat Depression Without Drugs

To beat depression without drugs is a concept easier said than done. However, that does not nearly make it impossible to be done. There are just a few things that you need to do to get yourself out of the depression rut. Read on and know all about it.
Today's lifestyle is fast and stressful. No time for a breather, right? This is often a reason why many people start walking into the depths of a forest called depression. More so, they say that in today's world, you are by yourself. No one will make it a point to be at your side all the time, and medication is like walking from one tunnel into another, right? Many I people know are battling depression. They take the support of medication, smoking, alcohol, random sex and things along those lines. But, here I am, trying to help out all those people who wish to defeat depression sans drugs. Simple steps, that go a long way. Just in case you need help, check out these depression symptoms.

Methods of Beating Depression Without Drugs

Method 1
Stick to our regular schedule. Carry on with your normal activities and make sure that you get your regular sleep. This is a sure shot way of pulling you out of the depression. Depression has a tendency to show up at times of idleness and loneliness. So, stick to your schedule, make it busier if you want. Sleeping also helps the mind get rest and gives it more strength to fight the depression. So, make sure you get a good night's sleep as well.

Method 2
Have fun. Yes, I know that it is difficult to have fun when you are in depression, but you can't stop trying. Go out with friends every so often. Tell them to crack jokes and play pranks, and when something is really funny, you will laugh. Laughter is the ultimate antidote to depression. So, read jokes on the net and spend fun times with your friends. If you like dancing, go out dancing every so often. Do things that make you happy, and fight that demon of depression. More so, keep giving yourself positive self affirmations. It really works wonders.

Method 3
Avoid caffeine and alcohol. They may seem like mood lifters, but the effect is temporary. This in turn leads to an even more depressing aftermath. So, instead have apples to rejuvenate yourself. If you are at a party, stick to soft drinks and mocktails. You need not even let people know that you are not having alcohol, trust me, pretending to be drunk can be a lot of fun. More so, the fact that caffeine reduces the serotonin levels in the long run, should be reason enough to avoid it at the moment.

Method 4
Work out. Trust me, gaining weight and losing stamina does not have a cheering effect. More so, I don't have the heart to tell you to avoid all the emotional eating. So, instead I rather have you working out more. It will help you sweat it out, which has a cheering and relaxing effect. More so, it also aids a good night's sleep. Another factor to consider is that if you look amazing, you feel amazing right? After all, what is the harm in having a few heads turn when you pass by.

Method 5
They say that looks don't matter. I disagree. Dress up and make sure you look your best every day. Not for others to look and gawk at you. But that fact that looking good leads to feeling good. Trust me, I tried it out. There was this span of a week when I was in depression after my exam results (I didn't fail, but I didn't get the score that I wanted either). I decided to stop sulking about it. I looked at my self in the mirror and hated the reflection of a sobby swollen eyed girl. That instant I went for a shower, got dressed and made an extra effort to look good. Make up, perfume, the works. Even before I left the house, I felt my mood lift. It was amazing. Try it out, it is sure to work.

I could go on about meditation and prayers, but I have a few atheist readers out there who may also need help. These 5 methods do work. But the thing that works the best is faith in yourself. The only one who can keep you in the ditch that life has pushed you into, is yourself. You are the only one who can pull yourself out as well. So, keep faith in yourself and stay happy. Sadness is a part of life, only if you focus on it. Avoid it, and it will be gone! This is where I sign off!! Stay happy my friend!!
