Beagle

Forsaken On a Long Dusty Road.
On a long dusty road
Into the state park
The car stopped
And I was pushed out

I watched as my family
Drove away
Dust kicking up
From the tires
As the rubber growled
In dismay

I waited at the edge
Of the dusty road
Sure that my family
Would be back
And load

Me into the car
And away we would go
Back home where I belonged
But as time passed
They didn’t return

Every car, every truck
That motored my way
I met in the middle
Of the road
As if to say

Are you my family?
I’m ready to go back
To be at home
I want to hit the sack

The dog catcher came
And I surrendered with ease
A good meal
A bed, and friends all around
Now, at least
I have a family
