Beaches of Kerala
Kerala has a wide range of beaches that are the main tourist puller of the state. These silvery white beaches are famous for leisure vacation. Adventure buffs can also try their hands in various kinds of water sports.

The pier which extends into the sea here is almost 140 years of old. Lagoons, vast lakes and numerous fresh water rivers are the main attraction of Alappuzha. It is a spectacular beach which is surrounded by dense palm groves at one end. Alappuzha is famous for its sandy beach, Vijaya Beach Park and an old light house loctaed nearby to this beach. It lies 5km from Alappuzha railway station and 90 km from the Kochi International Airport.
Fort Kochi Beach: As the name suggest, Fort Kochi Beach's prime possession is its Fort. It is the favourite haunt of both Kochiites and travellers. It has an ideal ambiance for relaxation. The Fort Kochi gives a historical touch to this fort. The beach is just 12 km from Ernakulum city. A leisurely walk through the lanes of the city is the best way to reach this beach. Fort Kochi beach is a blend of fine European culture. Beach carnival is a major attraction of this beach. The coastal village which is guarded by this village has immense evidence of Portuguese influence. The architecture of monuments that are available here have Portuguese architectural designs. Varakala Beach: Positioned 54km north of Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala beach is popular as papnasham beach. It encompasses a 2000 years old Lord Vishnu shrine within its territory. It is known as Janardana Swamy temple. Beside this temple, mineral springs that are available in the beach are also famous. They are famed for their curative powers. Varakala beach is also dotted with some Yoga and Ayurveda centres. If you are fond of water sports than you must visit this beach. It will give to opportunity to indulge yourself in some water sport like water skiing and surfing. You can also enjoy sun bath at the beach.

For several years the skilled craftsmen of the region are involved in making boats which are known as 'Uru'. These hand made traditional boats are the main source of revenue of the region. These Arbian trading vessels still pull the Middle eastern buyers to the area. Beside being an epicnter of economy, Beypore beach is also a maritime destination. Beyore beach is an ideal site for boat ride. Tourists can even try out their hands in fishing in company of local fishermen.
