Be Wise: Use Sage for Increased Mental Strength

The use of herbs for medicinal purposes is nothing new: from biblical times to the days of Chinese dynasties through to the current day, the power of herbs to heal, rejuvenate and restore bodily health continues to amaze us. Sage has significant, proven ability to balance the brain chemistry, restore balance to the nervous system and increase mental prowess.

The folklore surrounding the use of this herb is quite extensive: It was used by the Romans in their efforts to achieve immortality, by the Greeks to impart wisdom, while the Arabs used sage to improve their psychic ability.

From the Latin word "salvia" which means "to heal" the potent herb Sage derives its name. With properties that have been called "miraculous" it is no wonder that from ancient times this herb has been used as a remedy for depression, memory loss and lack of concentration. These properties have been confirmed for research: the medical journal "Pharmacological Biochemical Behavior" published an article in its June 2003 issue where scientists provided the evidence that supports this herbs ability to improve memory.

In the research study, a certain group of 45 young adults were treated with a standardized dosage of essential oil extract of sage while others were given a placebo. The results of the cognitive tests at hourly intervals revealed that those who had received the extract performed better than those that received a placebo.

This herb is an outstanding antioxidant that supports the body's defense against free radicals. To make use of this herb’s antibacterial properties the oil is extracted eliminating fungus and viruses from the body. As a tea, healers have used sage in the treatment of hysteria and it has also been proven effective to migraine headaches. Sage extract or tinctures provide relief for inflammations of the mouth, fever, as well as a treatment for gingivitis and is now a primary ingredient in the manufacture of toothpaste.

As a seasoning for food, sage is used in many different cultures to impart a unique flavor. Most Americans are familiar with sage for its use in preparing Thanksgiving dinners. In France it’s used to add zest to vegetable soup, while Germans use it to enhance their sausage dishes.

As with all herbs it is important to purchase them from a reliable, organic source to ensure the best quality and most effective results.

Rawleigh Products was founded in the late 1800s to create a line of "Good Health Products" that possessed both strength and quality.
