Battery Operated Lawn Mowers
Battery operated lawn mowers are environmentally friendly as they do not require gasoline. These mowers are free from the use of any electrical outlet, nor do they have any long cords. So they are user-friendly as well. To know other benefits of using these battery operated machines, continue reading...

Why Should You Buy A Battery Operated Lawn Mower?
Pollution-free operation is the most admirable quality of these machines. It is obvious that mowers that use gasoline are a major contributor to air pollution. Whereas the battery operated ones not only provide good performance on lawns but also keep the surroundings and the environment clean and fresh. Moreover, operating these lawn mowers produce less or no noise at all, when compared to the standard mowers.
Another benefit of using battery powered lawn mowers is their mobility. Their working is not bound by the limitations of electrical cords. Electric lawn mowers do provide pollution-free working; however, they have a constant problem of managing corded electrical engines. For extremely large lawns, it is most unlikely that every nook and corner would be worked upon. There is a limitation that is posed on these machines by their cords. Moreover, in the presence of electrical cords, there is a lurking risk of kids or pets being electrocuted.
Apart from being economical, these lawn mowers are also low on maintenance. Annually, they incur about three to four dollars to keep them working properly. On the other hand, maintenance of the gas-driven lawn mowers costs at least twenty dollars. Not only this, your pocket will have to bear the costs of gasoline as well.
Why Shouldn't You Buy It?
Lawns with uneven surfaces cannot be worked upon effectively with lawn mowers that work on battery. The batteries get exhausted rapidly. However, this depends on the type and size of the batteries. For lawns measuring more than 1/3 in size, lawn mowers may not be a considerable option. These lawn mowers run on low power when compared to their counterparts. Due to their low power, you cannot use them to mow a large amount of grass at a time. In such a case, regular mowing is preferable for proper lawn care.
These mowers are not self-propelled. So the weight of the battery may be another obstacle to fast mowing. The types of grass growing on the lawns also influence the operation of the mowers. Very tall or too much wet grass cannot be mowed, except certain types. The types are Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, fine fescue, etc.
Lawn Mower Battery
Some lawn mowers are built with rechargeable batteries that run out every thirty minutes, while some can last for about an hour. After a period of about five years, the lawn mower batteries will require a replacement. Nickel cadmium (Ni-cad) batteries are usually suitable for these machines. Lead acid and lithium batteries are expensive and have low storage capacity. Whereas nickel cadmium types are eco-friendly and can be recycled. These lawn mower batteries are also maintenance-free. As mentioned earlier, these mowers are not suitable for mowing wet grass and long grass. Trial of the machines on wet grass will exert tremendous strain on the engines or batteries and hence shorten their lifespan. The engine may also get affected if too much grass is mowed at a time.
To conclude, mowers that run on battery are best for people owning small lawns and who can take up the habit of regular mowing. For these machines to perform efficiently, they require diligent care and maintenance. But above all, the most important benefit of using battery operated machines is that they are gentle on the environment.
