Bariatrics is one of the branch of medicine that helps to prevent and cure obesity. Though one might think of this branch as new, it is actually forty-five years old! Talking about bariatric weight loss surgery, it is a surgery performed on over-obese people. Weight loss is achieved in such people by reducing the size of their stomach. There are two-three different ways of doing this. People lose weight rapidly after this surgery, and that is why a bariatric surgery diet should consist of three to four nutritional meals. Bariatric eating plan, right after surgery, generally consists of liquids only. However, meal plans should be made only under the guidance of a doctor.

Tilapia with Avocado

Ingredients
  • Tilapia or basa fillets, 4 (5-ounce)
  • Low-sodium chicken broth
  • Avocado, peeled with seed removed, 1 medium ripe
  • Garlic powder, ½ tsp
  • Ground cumin, ½ tsp
  • Chili powder, 1 tbs
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Tabasco sauce, optional
  • Reduced fat mayonnaise, 2 tbs
  • Garlic cloves, chopped, 3
  • Juice of one lime, about 2 tbs

To make this dish, firstly spray a skillet with non-stick vegetable spray. Wash the fillets with cold water and dry them with paper towels. Take a small bowl and add chili powder, cumin, garlic powder and ½ tsp salt. Spread the mixture over both the sides of the fish. Blend garlic, mayonnaise, avocado and lime juice in a food processor. After blending for about 10 seconds, add in chicken broth until a thick paste is formed. Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl, season with Tabasco, pepper and salt. Now heat the grill pan until smoking, over medium heat. Cook the fillets until opaque in the center, for about 3 minutes on each side. Serve with sauce on top.

Balsamic Strawberries with Ricotta Cream

Ingredients
  • Part-skim ricotta cheese, 1 cup
  • Strawberries, hulled and quartered, 16 oz
  • Honey, 1 tbs
  • Brown sugar, 1½ tbs
  • Fresh basil, cut into fine ribbons, 1 tbs
  • Balsamic vinegar, 3 tbs
  • Pure vanilla extract, ½ tsp
Process

To make balsamic strawberries, stir cheese in the container itself so that the liquid combines with the cheese. Add vanilla, honey and cheese to a food processor bowl and blend for about 1 minute. Refrigerate the mixture for about 2 hours. Meanwhile, combine sugar and vinegar in a small pan. Stir continuously until sugar is completely dissolved, bring to a boil and then simmer for about 3 minutes. Let cool. In a large mixing bowl, mix basil, strawberries and vinegar mixture. Pour into serving glasses and top with ricotta cream, serve chilled.

Green Beans with Sauce

Ingredients
  • Green beans, preferably small, cut into 1-inch lengths, ½ pound
  • Natural cashew butter, 2 tbs
  • Asian sesame oil, 1 tbs
  • Rice vinegar, 1 tbs
  • Honey, 2 tsp
  • Organic wheat-free tamari, 1 ½ tsp
  • Grated fresh ginger, 1 tsp
Process

To make this easy dish, firstly steam the green beans, only until tender. Take a large bowl and combine sesame oil, cashew butter, honey, ginger, vinegar and tamari. Add the cooked beans to the mixture and toss to coat, you can even stir the mixture. Let the mixture come to room temperature and only then serve.

Protein Shake

Ingredients
  • Bananas, 2
  • Milk or water, 2 cup
  • Ice, ½ cup
  • Nutmeg, 1 tsp
  • Protein powder, 1 scoop
  • Honey, 2 tbs
  • Lecithin, 1 tsp
Process

Blend all the ingredients together in a blender, serve chilled.

These were some of the best recipes for you that you can add in your bariatric diet. You can make changes in any of the above recipes, however, make sure you do not add high calorie ingredients, instead add ingredients that are high in protein and soluble fiber.
