Banna - Chapter 3
Part 3 of Banna.... Please comment.....
Shay decided that he was gonna kill Max the minute he saw him. It was his fault that he was up all night thinking about Banna. Yes, he decided, it was his fault. And now here he was, waiting for her to show up. He'd emailed her and told her to meet him at half past five, and here it was fifteen minutes to six.
He found her running toward him. He glanced at her short skirt and shirt. She looked very professional he decided, extremely attractive but professional. "Hey Mr. McPartlin. Sorry I'm late, but Miranda wanted to go over the layout before she sent it up to you and Max."
"It's fine, and I'm not gonna ask you again to call me Shay, and not Mr. McPartlin." said Shay, smiling slightly at her.
"Right. Are you ready to go Shay?" asked Banna, unsure of what to do. It had been easier to deal with him when he'd been rude to her, but now she didn't know how to act around him.
"Yeah. let's go. So where do you live in Brooklyn?" he asked.
"I doubt you'd know it. I'll tell you where to go." she said smiling at him.
They got to her house, and he waited and watched while she went over to a homeless lady and gave her money. "Here you go Maggie." she said, smiling sweetly at her.
"Oh, hi Banna. No thanks. You need it more than I do." said Maggie looking at Banna up and down. "Sweetheart. Please. Take the money, and go buy yourself a decent meal."
"No it's okay Maggie. I have food upstairs. Don't worry about it okay?" She gave her the money and went upstairs with Shay. She unlocked the door and let him in. "Come on in." She let him in and motioned him to sit in the living room. She went into the kitchen. "I think I have beer here. do you want beer or coke?"
"Beer's fine." he said. She gave him a bottle and grimaced as he sipped it, which caused him to laugh. "You don't like beer?" he asked, lifting up one eyebrow.
"No. I don't like alcohol in general." she said. "I know I know, coming from someone who grew up in Ireland it's like saying Hindus love meat." She sat down next to him. "When are we expected there anyway?"
"Seven." He said blandly.
"Seven? Who has dinner at seven? Oh crap it's six. I'll be right back." She runs back inside and comes out twenty minutes later. "Is this okay or am I underdressed?" she said with a smirk.
"You're not underdressed at all. You look good. Let's go." said Shay, trying his best not to stare at her. Focus man, focus he tried to mentally shake himself, and was failing miserably.
"Wait. These people drink wine?" she asked playfully, "They're Irish of course they drink. They do right?"
"Yes they do." he said, smiling.
"Good. Because I got a bottle of wine. I have no clue if it's any good, but hey, it's the thought that counts right?"
"Absolutely." he said. "Chardonne 1984. They'll like this one."
"Yeah, okay. If you say so. Can we go now? I hate being late." she said solemnly.
They arrive at the O' Sullivan house at five minutes past seven. Max's younger sister Celine opens the door for them and practically shoves Shay to the ground to get around him.
"Are you my sister? Please say yes. Please, please, please." said Celine excitedly. The rest of the O' Sullivan family arrived just in time to see Celine hugging Banna tightly.
"Celine, how about we don't kill her tonight." said Max, greatly enjoying teasing his sister.
"And you call yourself an adult.," said Celine, pouting, "You're thirty years old Max, you should be more worried about having babies than you should about me suffocating my sister." she returned.
"She does have a point Max, your biological clock's ticking." said Banna playfully.
"Men don't have biological clocks," he said, frowning at her.
"And you call yourself educated? Come on Max, think Biology 101," she said, laughing at his attempt to look offended.
"Ooh, I like her. Of course the fact that she doesn't have testosterone qualifies her as my new favorite person in this house. No offense mom." said Celine grinning broadly. "You have no idea what it's like growing up with two boys." she said while groaning.
"You can't deny that they were the best days of your life," said Shay, looking amused, "She used to have a giant crush on me." he said when Celine glared at him.
"I'll bet you were a charmer," said Banna sarcastically, "Too bad it didn't stick with you through adulthood. Could've done you well." she said moving past him and hanging her coat. She gave Mrs. O' Sullivan the wine. "Thank you for inviting me, Mrs. O' Sullivan." she pointed at Shay.
"He said you'd like it. I'm not sure though, I'm not a drinker." she said with a sheepish shrug.
"Thank you, 1984 is actually my favorite year. And a non-drinking O'Sullivan? You've got to be joking. O' Sullivans live to drink and drink to live. " said Mrs. O' Sullivan, feigning exasperation with the family.
"I've never been able to keep alcohol of any kind down for more than ten- fifteen minutes maybe." she said, shrugging.
