How to Install Bamboo Privacy Fence

Bamboo fences and outdoor privacy screens are incredibly durable and strong and they can withstand heavy winds and extreme weather conditions. If you live in a warm climate then you can even opt for a living bamboo privacy fence.

To grow a living bamboo fence, select a type of bamboo that is suitable for your climate and which grows to a height that is required for your privacy. Now mark the area or the perimeter of your property where you want the privacy fence. For good privacy fences you need to create a planting area which is at least three to four feet wide. After you have marked the area, where you are going to do the planting, dig a trench that is around three feet deep. Line the entire trench with plastic sheeting. This is done to prevent the rhizomes from escaping and the bamboo plants invading the rest of your garden or yard. Place several inches of soil over the plastic sheet in the trench tightly and make sure that the soil is well drained. Now lay your bamboo rhizomes in the trench and space them adequately. Cover rhizomes with soil and 2 inches of compost. Water the trench thoroughly so that the bamboo plants can grow. In about a month or so the bamboo plants will grow to a height of three to four feet.

If you want to install a more traditional bamboo private fence then there are a number of bamboo fence styles that you can choose from. Rolled bamboo privacy fence is made out of ¾ inches bamboo poles which are then arranged together and linked. Bamboo stick privacy fences are a more popular and attractive option where ½ inch bamboo slats are arranged to make a fence. Another type of bamboo fence design that gives a very rustic look is the bamboo twig fence. It is made by small bamboo twigs that are interwoven and held together by steel wires.

To build a bamboo privacy fence you need some bamboo that has been cut to the required height, some galvanized wire and two wooden posts. Arrange the bamboo stalks tightly together making sure that there are no gaps in between the stalks. Now use the galvanized wire to tie each bamboo stalk together to hold it in place. Place this privacy fence in between two wooden posts that has been hammered into the soil. Take some more galvanized wire to secure the bamboo fence to the wooden posts.

Whether you choose to grow a living bamboo fence or just install one, bamboo fences are a great option for privacy fence designs. Bamboo furniture and fencing are best for people who are looking to give a natural and rustic look to their home and garden.
