Washing Hair with Baking Soda
Any type of shampoo found in the market contains harsh chemicals which can damage hair. Yes, even the extra mild, moisturizing shampoo that you use contains harmful chemicals. Using shampoo frequently, and for a long time, can leave hair frizzy and dry. Therefore, switching to a more natural product is definitely a good idea. Baking soda is a good and healthy substitute for shampoo and conditioner. It absorbs the naturally produced oil in hair and hence, acts as a dry shampoo. This natural product is good for oily and greasy hair. Secondly, many people use it for cleansing hair off the oily substances and chemicals left by shampoos and conditions. This helps in treatment and prevention of hair loss. However, it is also true that initially your hair may actually look bad. But, the soda definitely works wonders after the initial wash.
Tips on Using Baking Soda
- You should add 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda to little warm water. Mix to form a paste. Apply this paste directly to your scalp and massage well. Then wash off with water.
- The second method involves using soda along with your shampoo. Pour the shampoo in your palm and add ½ teaspoon of baking soda to it. Mix it together and apply to your scalp. Wash off with water after a couple of seconds.
There are no known side effects of using baking soda for hair wash. However, as a note of caution, you should remember, if at all any kind of irritation occurs on using baking soda or apple cider vinegar, you should stop using these products immediately. Take care!
