Baiting the Baiter

Just who is the villain... we all shall see.
You have led me through the shallow water, but still I am lost;
I continue to follow, but it is I, you have double-crossed,
Now that the sun has gone down, this game will soon change,
For you, my friend, will all be rearranged,
We wade through the knee-deep lake, or so you say,
To find the other side, that will keep us on our way.

But, I know your true intentions, cloaked behind that smile,
You wish to lure me to some forgotten place, all the while,
You think you know me, that I am vulnerable for the taking,
Alas, dear one, this time it’s your prey your mistaking.
You turn quickly, on a dime, the water still below your feet,
I stop, your eyes, no longer can I see, but our hands touch as we meet.

You blow out a laugh, raise your knife to me, "This is the place,"
You say, as I dive under the water, swim to the side with such haste,
"I am not a fool, friend, you are no guide, just a con man,"
I say, as the knife comes crashing down and the waves splatter,
I dive back under the water, the knife not even slicing a tatter.

From behind, I yank out his foot, forward he crashes into the lake,
I pounce from behind, pushing down on his head, a sound I hear break,
His arms and feet thrash about, the knife is gone and lost forever,
You obviously thought me not to be this clever,
As you quietly stop moving, and lips no longer breathing,
Swiftly, without a sound, I drag your body to the shore, seething.

"Why did you make me do this to you," I whisper aloud,
On the shore you will be buried, no one to find you, there will be no crowd,
With the hole dug, your body tumbles into your new home,
Away I from here, I must now go, further down the lake I will now roam,
Crossing to the other side, as the new day breaks, I sit, rest, and wait,
For someone soon will come again, as I prepare to lay my bait.
