Bacopa monnieri as a bodybuider enhancer

In Asia, the Bacopa monnieri plant is known for its body and mind enhancing capacities. The bodybuilding community can benefit from this ancient knowledge.
As a bodybuilder, you're always on the search for some good bodybuilding enhancers, something that can give you a little bit of an edge; this is doubly true if you're a competitive bodybuilder. An effective bodybuilding enhancers can come in many different forms. From personal training to protein supplements to herbs and other natural products, there are a lot of different ways to improve your bodybuilding regimen out there. Many bodybuilders have had success with herbal supplements. Bacopa monnieri (also known as water hyssop and money wort) seems an unassuming enough plant. Growing largely in marshy areas of Asia, it has recently been introduced to the Americas as well. It's small white flowers and succulent leaves don't really shout "exciting supplement", but believe or not, many people are very excited about bacopa, particularly in the bodybuilding community.

Bacopa has been used for centuries in ayurvedic medicine for it's antidepressant and antioxidant properties. It is believed to increase intellectual capabilities as well. Recent research in the West has borne these claims out, and may have other benefits in addition to these, such as improving sleep and concentration. As a bodybuilder, the benefits could be a great help in your routine. After all, if you can sleep and concentrate better, that would certainly improve your physical as well as mental well being. This way, you will be better able to focus on your bodybuilding routine. Like any herbal supplements, the effects of Bacopa are not instant. They require a bit of time to begin working, usually about three months before giving their full benefits. Good things come to those who wait. It should be noted that it is the leaves, not the flowers of the Bacopa plant that are used as a supplement. According to studies, the way it works seems to be that this plant increases the transmission of nerve impulses, thereby strengthening general mental function and memory.

The mental strain of the focus and dedication required of you as a body builder, combined with the physical stress of a workout regimen, can leave you feeling stressed out and drained. Thankfully, Bacopa can be a big help alleviating these things. Not only can Bacopa help you sleep better, which is a big factor in reducing stress, but the plant seems to have a stress reducing effect of its own quite separate from improving sleep. Especially if you're in competition, you have enough to keep your mind occupied already without having to deal with stress than can be avoided through the use of a supplement like Bacopa. The stress relieving properties of Bacopa seem to have something to do with the regulation of corticosterone, although this research is very much still in progress. Animal studies have shown much promise however, and the anecdotal evidence is very strong for the de-stressing properties of this plant. It may not be long before the conventional wisdom on Bacopa is proved by medical science, just as many of it's other properties have been so far.

All this from one little water plant ? Yes, that and more. More research is underway on the cognitive enhancing benefits of Bacopa, animal studies again suggest that it can improve mental function. Studies on human volunteers continue and seem to suggest an enhancement can be provided by Bacopa in memory, as well as the ability to learn new things. Obviously, this is exciting news for everyone, not just those who engage in the sport of bodybuilding. Everyone could of course benefit from better memory and learning capacity, no matter what sport (if any) they happen to practice. Any athlete should take note and think if Bacopa is something that they can use in their training regimen. Regardless of whether or not you're a bodybuilder (and most of you reading this most assuredly are), or even an athlete, Bacopa is a plant you'll be seeing more of in the future, its popularity is rapidly growing with bodybuilders and with the general public. It's not hard to see why it is moving ahead of many other bodybuilding enhancers on the market.

One word of advice; just as you would with any bodybuilding enhancers, new medication or any sort of natural products taken for their health benefits, it's always a good idea to talk to your doctor and your pharmacist about Bacopa or any other. Bacopa could possibly interfere with some medications, so be sure to ask your physician. Its applications both as a stimulant to cognitive abilities and as a boost to physical well-being make this a herbal supplement worth considering.
